New Lifers,
I’m back with another ministry update! In my two months with New Life Church, I’ve heard several people suggest that we can improve communication throughout the congregation. I hear you!
We’re a big church, which means we can offer lots of quality ministries but our size can also make communication harder. I’m working with staff and other leaders to improve communication all around. We’re evaluating how best to use our different communication tools. These include email, website, church app, social media, Sunday morning announcements, and print communications. The Bridge is a great resource but, to be honest, it gets full some weeks. We’re looking at how to fix that.
We’re also going to improve visual communications across the church campus. In our First Impressions Assessment, we realized that some areas are cluttered with information. We want to make information clear, accessible, and compelling! You may also see a few digital monitors added in coming months.
We’re also going to try a quarterly newsletter which includes “big picture” updates from across the church. Updates may include finances, building and grounds, ministry updates, and notes from administrative teams like the Leadership Team.
Our brains naturally fill in the gaps when we’re missing information. It’s totally normal! But we all know from personal experience that filling in missing information can make things messy. Be careful with rumors and avoid gossip. Jesus encourages us to talk directly with one another when we’re trying to resolve a question or disagreement (see Matthew 18:15). I’m happy to answer any questions I can, and I’m sure other staff feel the same way!
