Mother's Day Tea Party

Thank you to all who attended our Tea Party last Saturday, we had a great time!!

Thank you!

Another "A Mother's Prayer of Hope" has ended, and the Salvation Army is blessed with food for their shelves for the summer. New Life Church was very generous. Actually, we had three groups participating this year. New Life, my sorority chapter, Xi Theta, and Bountiful Blessings food pantry. They were generous in their donations.

But I could not have managed all the food coming in without Michael Bohley's help. During the whole time, Michael would remove bags and deposit the food donations into boxes. "you can't stack bags. You need boxes." Michael said this repeatedly. Then on Tuesday, May 14, Michael had all the boxes ready to go and the other boxes on tables and the floor. He had 2 carts filled, and when we pulled up to load the food, Michael was right there helping get every box to the two SUV's. It filled both cars. It was hot and Michael was sweating, but he never stopped until we had everything loaded. And he was still smiling!

He has such a servant's heart! He is always willing to help and I appreciate him so much!!

Thank you, New Life, for giving your blessing to this food drive! The blessings will continue over the food and the people who receive it!!

Yours in Christ, Chris Wilkens

Summer Worship Schedule

We wanted to share a change for our worship schedule this summer. We will not have an 8 am service during the months of July and August, only our 9:15 and 10:45 services.

Our 8 am worship service will return to the Sanctuary in September, and to Gilchrist Park in October!

FREE Greeting Cards Available

We now have free greeting cards available in the church office for those of you who visit shut-ins or patients in the hospital or nursing homes. These cards are created and donated by our Crafters for Christ ladies.

We welcome anyone who would like to help create these cards (no experience needed). Our group meets every Wednesday 12:30-4:00 pm in Lenox Hall. Come for an hour or come the whole time. A great way to meet new people!

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family and friends,

It's hard to believe that May is already half over! Even more astounding is the fact that the past 5 weeks have been both a blur of lethargy, physical misery, and either lack of sleep or sleeping around the clock. I want to mention this only because so many of you have been asking. I am relieved and blessed to be able to say that both Don and I are doing well. I was overwhelmed by how difficult this was, but at the same time, I was blessed again and again by your prayers and encouraging words. There were times when I felt discouraged and lonely and I would read a devotional that seemed to be written solely for me. Those moments, no matter how awful I was feeling, reminded me to rejoice! A reminder that the great gift of prayer always awaits us so we can know the loving, all-knowing, all-powerful Lord is with us forever, no matter what we face. I know what it's like to experience life that can be exhausting and sometimes overwhelming, but with prayer, I can return to that humble place where I cannot bear the pressure alone, and can place my trust in Him for help. I believe He won't give us more than we can handle. He will provide renewed power and vigor to overcome any weakness or temptation to give up. Isaiah 40:31 tells us "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

So - enough about being sick. A huge Thank-you to all of you for your prayers - they truly are the most beneficial gift you can give someone who is struggling. Those of you who took the time to send a message about my articles - you encourage me so much and I am grateful.  I have had plenty of opportunities to learn that it's easy to find yourself feeling negative and down when going through tough times. We can become our own worst enemy by developing bitter or angry attitudes. The apostle Paul wrote about putting off the negative and putting on the positive. Admit that there are problems but don't dwell on them. Focus on the positive and be thankful that God promises to always be with us... use Bible verses to help re-focus. Pray to change your outlook and it can change your life. Reach out to friends - especially prayer partners, who will help lift you in prayer when you feel unable.

We are blessed that our church family has a powerful group of prayer warriors who are available whenever prayer is needed.  Both Don and I have been blessed by your love and prayers!

I'm praying for you!

Greetings from the Music Ministry

Hello New Life Church!

This weekend is Pentecost Sunday, the day that the church around the world celebrates the very beginning of the Church as recorded in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. We celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in a NEW way to believers and followers of Jesus. Before Christ came, the Holy Spirit of God was active amongst His people. However, the Spirit of God did not commonly dwell within people. It was only when there was a special anointing or calling that we find this in the Old Testament. However, Jesus promised that the Spirit would come to us. “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate, to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be IN you.” John 14:16-17  The Holy Spirit of God does not come and go from us. He permanently lives within us, comforting and guiding us.

Sometimes we sing hymns in church that can confuse our understanding of this. We sing songs asking God to send His Spirit, or we pray asking the Spirit directly to descend upon our hearts. We ask God to pour out His Holy Spirit upon us as a people as well. But we need to be sure that we understand that we do not need to summon the Holy Spirit, or hope that He “shows up.” While at times we ask God to make Himself evident to us, we need to know that God is here, always. His Holy Spirit resides within us believers, always. It is us that need to lean into Him, to acknowledge Him and to not quench Him in our lives. There are certainly times that we feel the Holy Spirit or see the hand of God moving very specifically in our lives and hearts. Sometimes it is more obvious than others. And we can certainly pray for more of His Spirit and less of ourselves. We can even pray for a special moving of His Spirit. But be sure that He is always here, whether we feel Him or not. “He will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5.

Pray that God will show you the workings of the Holy Spirit in your life. Pray that you will understand His leading. Before you ask God to send His Spirit, ask yourself if you are following Christ. Have you repented of your sins, confessed Him as Lord, committed yourself to walking with Him, obeyed Him in baptism, and truly given your whole heart to Him? If you have, you have the Holy Spirit living inside you. You are God’s temple. Wow, what an amazing gift and responsibility. And, what an amazing way for God the Father to show His love to His children by promising to always live with them and inside of them.

Here are just a few Scriptures about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Anthem - Every Time I Feel the Spirit

Every time I feel the Spirit,

movin’ in my heart

I will pray

Yes, Every time I feel the Spirit,

movin’ in my heart

I will pray

Upon the Mountain

My Lord spoke

Out of His mouth came

fire and smoke

I looked around me

I looked so fine

I asked the Lord if

All was mine

Every time I feel the Spirit,

movin’ in my heart

I will pray

Yes, Every time I feel the Spirit,

movin’ in my heart

I will pray

Come Holy Spirit

flow down on me

I need Your power

to set me free

Teach me to follow

teach me to pray

help me to walk that

narrow way

Every time I feel the Spirit,

movin’ in my heart

I will pray

Yes, Every time I feel the Spirit,

movin’ in my heart

I will pray

I would love to invite anyone who would be interested in helping with the music ministry this summer to reach out to me. We would love to have solos and instrumentalists and even more choir participants, even if you are normally not in the choir all year. E-mail me if you are interested.

Also, If you love to sing, please consider joining the Chancel Choir. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7-9 PM. We sing most Sunday mornings during the 9:15 service and are very flexible with travel plans and needing to be away at times. We have a wide variety of musicians with various backgrounds and there is a place for you! Please consider coming to a rehearsal to see if you would like to join us in this very fulfilling ministry.

At New Life Church, everyone in the music ministry is a worship leader. Our aim is to…
