Youth Yard Sale Was a Huge Success!
|
|
The New Life Youth Group would like to thank our church family for helping them with their very successful fundraiser. Many of you donated items to their sale, others worked along with our teens sorting and pricing items, and many more of you shopped at the sale last Friday and Saturday. In total, the teens raised $3,058 to help send a team of 11 to Austin, Texas on a 9-day mission trip this coming June.
A special thank you to the ladies at the Bargain Boutique for their assistance and support of our youth yard sale again this year.

Cuba Mission Trip - May 20
|
|
On Saturday, May 20, a Mission Team with Geri Bodnar, Daniel Candia and Tom Little will go to Guaro Cuba to visit our sister church and Pastor Ron, his family, and the church members. After the three hour service on Sunday they will be joined by the new District Superintendent, Yamel Miranda, to learn about what else is happening to the churches in the Holguin Norte District. We will carry over the counter medications as we did in January. Pastor Ron has asked for supplies for his Sunday School kids which is a growing ministry.
For those who would like to support this sister church, there is a CUBA Box on the Mission Table in Lenox Hall. Attached to the box is a list of the most urgently needed items.
We still need two large suitcases with rollers. The maximum size is 62 inches (calculated length + width+ depth). If you have an old suitcase to spare or if you have questions about this mission trip contact: Tom Little, 941-769-0002, kalani@comcast.net.

The United Christian Women's (UCW) monthly meeting was held on Monday, April 24th. Two future events were agreed upon. First, our May meeting will be Monday, May 22, 2023, at 12:30 PM as a 'field trip' at Jesus Loves You Ministry location: 1734 Cedarwood St., Port Charlotte. They wish to thank us for our support-financial donation and the monthly sandwich bag lunches we make. We have been invited to have lunch and a tour of the facility. All should go directly to the Jesus Loves You Ministry facility - do not stop at our church. Save the date and see you there!
Second, several UCW members are excited to start plans for a women's 'church wide' invitational event called: "Portrait of a Bride An Evolving Silhouette" presented by Leigh Anne Brown of her 20 wedding gowns from the Victorian era to the modern day. The presentation is planned for Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Life Center. Save the date- spread the word-invite a friend! UCW Member-Hosts will invite and sell the tickets which will cost $20/person. We will have a light reception menu - beverages, tea sandwiches, and cake desserts. AJ Riat is asking for your bridal portrait or wedding photo. She is heading up the table decorations. Think of where your gifts lie; promotions, signage, getting gift certificates, baking, beverage serving, luncheon service, tablecloth laundering, set-up, or break-down. We need everyone to make this a fun-filled successful fundraiser! Show your support...

Christian Serving Opportunity

Matthew 25: 40 “…whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me.”
Right now there is a dire need for men & women from our church to help feed the homeless & those with food insecurity at the Bayshore Park in Charlotte Harbor. A sister church, Christ Community United Methodist Church in Harbour Heights has had their “Ministry of Meals” going on for over 2 years. Every Tuesday through Friday from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm they have provided home cooked meals to the less fortunate. Their entire active membership is 60 individuals! They are calling out for help to adjunct their diminishing numbers by asking for:
1) “servers”, to pick up prepared meals, take it to the park and serve it and/or
2) “cooks”, those that can take the food supplies the church has in their freezers and prepare a meal for pick up (also, you can purchase & make your own meals of choice)
They serve 12-14 people at the park each evening.
Please pray and see if our Lord Jesus is calling you to help this vital ministry in our outreach community. Their need is now, your timely response would be appreciated and thank you.

In the 1970s, young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.

For families with younger children:

Greetings New Life Church family,
Happy May! Amazing that almost half the year has passed. Reminds me how precious and important each day is. I also now appreciate how important naps are!
I have been getting back into a better prayer pattern and as I mentioned last week - back to the basics. Back to Gratitude Journaling, which is a simple technique with great focus. Also, more focus on daily scripture reading. Philippians 4:6-8 says, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." God's peace is different from temporary or even worldly peace. God is near us when we are afraid, or brokenhearted. He doesn't get upset with us He is always near. When I'm done praying, I always try to take a moment of silence to listen for Him.
I'm excited to share an upcoming opportunity for all of you with our next 24/10 Prayer Vigil in our designated prayer room. I can tell you that spending one hour of prayer and meditation in there is uplifting and powerful. You can begin to sign up this Sunday 5/7. There will be a 3-ring notebook in Fellowship (Lenox) Hall with sign-in sheets for dates beginning Thursday 5/18 (Ascension) through Sunday 5/28 (Pentecost). If you're wondering how long an hour can be, you'll be surprised how quickly it goes. Please stop by and sign up for an hour or more of this special experience. I promise you'll be blessed. When you sign up fill out a reminder slip for your designated time and you'll have the code to enter the prayer room.
I am excited and grateful to tell you that my second year of Bridge articles is printed in booklet form. They will be available starting on Sunday. Writing those articles is definitely a labor of God's love and we're definitely a big step outside of my comfort zone. So a huge thank you to all of you who have continued to encourage me to keep writing. My prayer each week before I begin writing is to ask God to direct me to somehow touch someone's heart. I am humbled and blessed with your support.
Don't forget to pick some times during our 10-day prayer vigil. Our Country needs much prayer right now with all the terrible violence that's happening daily. Prayer is powerful!
I'm praying for you!

Worship Coordinator
