UPDATE on Pastor Mike and Debbie’s Grandson
Thank you for all your prayers and expressions of concern and support! It REALLY DOES make a difference that we can feel.

Aslan came home on Saturday, November 12, after 10 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The bottom line is that the sun is peeking out through the clouds.

We are praising God that there are no nasal passages or throat obstructions and that he is breathing and eating well. He has met his older sisters, 8 and 18 months. The 18-month-old is discovering she is not the center of attention any longer. Prayer request # 1!
There are still long-term unknowns. Basic genetic testing has come back with no anomalies. We are awaiting results from deeper levels of testing. We don’t know about his hearing or vision, nor about any potential surgeries in the future due to facial or cranial abnormalities.
We are praying for Aslan’s total wholeness and healing, including those areas that are still unknowns. Please pray for...
  • Normal intellectual development
  • Perfect hearing and vision
  • No additional facial or cranial abnormalities

In addition, please pray for Sean and April—specifically for emotional, physical, and spiritual strength, as well as for God’s refreshing grace as they navigate these rapids. Also, please pray for both older sisters as we know the stress of all this can take its toll on the entire family.

As we know more, we will give you information.

Again, thank you for your compassion, prayers, and concern. You have been such a blessing to Debbie and me, as well as to Sean and April and family!

Pastor Mike

Thanksgiving
Thank you to all who have donated food, plan to cook a turkey or will be volunteering this Thursday for our Community Thanksgiving Dinner. We are looking forward to a very special day giving back to our community.
Advent Bible Study
Pastor Earl Smith will offer a four week Bible Study helping to prepare our hearts and minds for Christmas. It will be held each Wednesday in the sanctuary from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. He will begin the study the week following Thanksgiving. Those dates include November 30 and December 7, 14, 28.

Hurricane Ian has disrupted our lives in many ways but the calendar continues to march forward. As it does we continue to do cleanup, all the while trying to get some sense of order and routine back into our lives. But we also know that each year between Thanksgiving and the New Year life can get hectic and very non-routine! Therefore, we need a time in the midst of that to pause and reflect upon the reason for the Christmas season. Especially this year, we don’t want the hustle and bustle of the holiday to become too crazy. After all, it is more than a holiday. It is a Holy Day! Therefore, let’s gather together in midweek Bible study to focus our spirits on this most Holy of events.

Rediscover the gift of Advent that comes without packages, ribbons, and bows. We don’t know why the Grinch hated Christmas. We just know he did. In this new Advent study, Matt Rawle explores the faith themes in the Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! including, how did the Grinch’s heart grow three sizes come Christmas morning? How did Christmas save the Grinch? Could it be that the very thing we think we hate is the one thing that changes our lives? This Advent and Christmas season, look at a familiar classic through the lens of faith and see how Christ speaks to us through our culture.
With intrigue, thoughtfulness, and humor Pastor Earl will help lead our focus in that very direction. No need to sign up or pre-register – just show up!

A Word from Worship
Greetings New Life Church friends and family --

It seems impossible that we are one short week from Thanksgiving. This time of year is a time when we typically reflect on all the things we are grateful for. And yet, the past couple weeks I've had conversations with several friends who shared feelings of loss, confusion and frustration. This is certainly understandable, given recent increase in outbreaks of flu, RSV. and Upper Respiratory infections of all kinds; not to mention a major Hurricane and for good measure, a tropical storm!  Easy to see why doubts in ourselves begin to creep in. I used to live in a state of self doubt before I accepted my Savior Jesus Christ into my life. All these times of trials and challenges still occur, but our Heavenly Father is always willing to comfort us, guide us in.our choices, heal any wounds we might have, and never leave or abandon us. Hebrews 4:16 tells us; "Let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. " I am filled with gratitude to have that someone, through the gift of prayer. Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know."  This journey to establish this relationship through prayer has helped me to be stronger when facing painful trials and difficulties. The Lord wants us to use this gift of prayer every day of our lives. Having a prayer-based relationship with God teaches us that nothing is impossible with God. No matter how complicated or confusing our situation is,the Lord is greater and can lead us to victory.  If you are just beginning your prayer journey, I urge you to reach out to someone; visit the prayer room for a time of solitudeand prayer, or join us on Thursdays at noon in the sanctuary where you can hear others share their prayer testimonies.

Don't forget: tis' the season! Though decorating will be more subdued this year, we still need help putting up our Christmas trees. I hope to have a few of our strong guys get the trees out of storage on Monday 11/21. Decorating with the Chrismons will happen on Tuesday 11/22. Please meet in the Life Center at 9am.

Don't forget-- I'm praying for you!

Rosie Young
Worship Coordinator
