President's Letter

The spring season is in full swing and brings thought of growth. Traditionally, this is also a busy season for growing the number of homes we build. My vision is to bring thoughts of expansion to our association and its members. There are many benefits to be a home builder member and spring is the perfect opportunity to help promote the organization. Many of our local home builder association are busy holding events and home shows. The events provide lots of opportunities to promote our industry and showcase great work.

As your President, I am committed to traveling across the state to
visit the local associations. My goal is to explain the benefits of state association and the many exciting opportunities on the horizon. We not only need to educate new prospects, but also ensure that existing members understand the opportunities in front of us. Remember, this association exists solely to ensure that the members have the tools and resources they need to help sustain growth.

In May, we are challenging each local to hold a membership drive, in connection with the National Association of Home Builders, to build our organization. In turn, increased membership helps us to improve the association and provide even more! HBAM will offer incentives to coincide with the membership drives. We will be communicating with each local association on the specifics of the drives and how each local chapter can benefit. Our goal is to inspire some healthy competition while meeting our membership goals.

Speaking of benefits, you will want to make plans to attend the annual convention this year. This year's conference will be held at the Biloxi Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino from June 23-25. Our registration fee is very affordable, and most everything is covered under that cost.  This year there are 2 "Early Bird" cut off dates.  All Builder Members and their guests can register for $100 each until Monday, April 25th.  Then the price will increase to $300 Builder Member and $150 per additional guest until Monday, May 23rd at which the price will increase again to our Late Registration pricing of $375 per Member Registration and $175 per guest.   You won't want to miss this year's themed three-day tour, where you will get "lost" in all of the fun and education activities.

It is an honor to serve as this year's President as we look forward to the many great things ahead for our association.

Greg Smith
President
Home Builders Association of Mississippi

Governor Phil Bryant and Terri Reeves Selected for the Mississippi Housing Hall of Fame

HBAM is pleased to announce the 2016 inductees into the Mississippi Housing Hall of Fame.  Congratulations to Governor Phil Bryant of Brandon and Terri Reeves of Brandon.

The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals that have made a significant and lifelong impact to the Mississippi housing industry.

Governor Phil  Bryant has supported home ownership and home builders his entire career.   Thousands of homes have been built since he has become Governor and he has initiated innovative policy ideas, such as the Healthcare zone master plan program that impact the industry.

Bryant has  placed a great focus on economic development and has had tremendous success.  These efforts will grow the housing market along with the rest of Mississippi's economy.

Governor Bryant's policies and initiatives will have a lasting positive effect on the housing industry  in Mississippi for years to come. He has supported the home builders in many legislative issues and as State Auditor, he helped lead the fight against Impact fees. He has been an avid supporter of the housing industry and the overall economic health in Mississippi.

Terri Reeves
Terry Reeves, has been a member of the Home Builders Association of Jackson for 40 years. He has served on several committees over that period of time and has also been elected to the Board of Directors multiple times. He currently serves on the 2016 Board of Directors, as National Director. Terry has been instrumental in serving on the Local Government Affairs committee by assisting in fostering relationships between local government and construction industry members.

Terry's support of the Home Builders Association stretches beyond his local association. He has been actively involved in the local, state and national associations for many years. In 2 different years, he was honored as HBAM Associate Member of the Year. Terry has served for NAHB, by accepting a request to serve on a committee of only 5 individuals to create the curriculum for VOTECH Junior College instructors across the country. Terry has also served on the Plumbing, Heating & Air State Board, as well as serving on the National Association of Credit Executives.

Terry is a well-respected member who continues to give his volunteer time in attending political events, keeping the associations abreast of political issues that challenge the home building industry, and supporting the associations by immeasurable volunteer time.

Governor Phil Bryant and Terri Reeves will both be recognized in June at the HBAM annual convention. Congratulations to both well-deserving nominees on induction into the HBAM Hall of Fame!
