Last Sunday's Service

After several years of absence during Covid, Northmont people will once again be able to help give a proper Christmas to those less fortunate than we.  The Angel Tree will be set up in the foyer of the main entrance off the parking lot. Simply choose a gift tag or tags from the tree, then return your unwrapped gift(s)  between November 5 and December 3. Gift cards can be placed in a container in the church office; other, unwrapped, items can be placed in the designated box in the church library.

Last year’s holiday toy drive for North Hills Community Outreach provided new toys, games, and other gifts to 821 children.  Northmont has always been a generous church. May our efforts be fruitful once again this year to help families in need in our community.

2024 Stewardship Campaign

The theme of this year’s campaign is our Northmont community and family and how we care for one another in so many ways. One of those is with our financial gifts to Northmont. You should have received a letter about the campaign, along with your commitment/pledge card. If you did not, please contact the church office. We will present our commitment/pledge cards on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Please mail your commitment /pledge card to the church by October 27, or bring it with you to worship on October 29. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity and care for one another.

Please send names of those that you would like to include in the service to Jen by Wednesday, November 1.

PW's CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

Northmont ladies, mark your calendars for the return of PW’s Christmas Luncheon on December 8, 2023. Prepping of raffle baskets has begun, men servers are readying their skills, and the menu has been selected. Details to follow.

We welcome back the Adult Bell Choir to worship this Sunday.  Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us.

Next Sunday is a very special musical communion service in observation of All Saints’ Day. The Chancel Choir will be joined by the Academy Chamber Orchestra to perform the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré. The names of those who have died over the past year will be read. It is sure to be a serene and moving experience.

Hymn of the Month: October

Update for Sunday, October 22: When I introduced October’s tune, VINEYARD HAVEN, I called it a “twofer” because there are two texts we will sing it to. In fact, we’re going to have a “threefer” with the tune! Recently I was given a copy of an article by Northmont’s former music director, Todd Alexander, which referenced the Isaac Watts hymn, “Come, We That Love the Lord.” I was surprised to see that it wasn’t in the Presbyterian Hymnal, so I went looking for it elsewhere. The first book I grabbed was the Episcopalian, Hymnal 1982, where it is set to VINEYARD HAVEN. I took this as a sign; it will be our opening hymn this weekend.

October is upon us, and with it come cooler weather, fall colors, and also the annual Peacemaking Offering. This collection, also known as the Peace and Global Witness Offering, is one of three PCUSA General Assembly Special Offerings that we collect at Northmont throughout the year. The other two are the Eastertime One Great Hour of Sharing Offering and the Christmas Joy Offering. The Peacemaking Offering is typically collected on World Communion Sunday, which is the first Sunday in October, but contributions can be made throughout October. Generally, 25 percent of the offering is retained by each congregation for their own peacemaking use, 25 percent is used by synods and presbyteries, and 50 percent is used by the General Assembly ministries. Gifts to the Offering enable the church to promote the Peace of Christ by addressing systems of conflict and injustice across the world, and can be made using the designated pledge envelope or marking Peacemaking Offering on a pew envelope. Thank you for your consideration for this offering. – Your Mission Committee
