Are You Having Trouble Self-Regulating?
Self-Regulation is a person's ability to live with stress and anxiety and not internalize it and or not obsess over it. If you can't self regulate you will be sucked into others craziness.
There are times when we are hit with so much Chaos and so many expectations (from yourself and others) that we are unable to automatically self regulate. You may also have past trauma or generational trauma that prevents you from self regulating.
If you are sitting at your desk and you feel like you can't take any more you have lost your ability to self regulate. If you feel upset with everyone and everything you have lost your ability to self regulate. If you feel a sense of terror you have lost your ability to self regulate.
I am seeing hundreds of people in this condition right now. Men and women all over the world are feeling this and feeling out of control.
If it is so bad that you are losing sleep and pushing away people you love please see a therapist! And do it NOW.
If you are feeling it but not yet losing sleep or not pushing loved ones away then here are some suggestions. Some of you will notice they may be similar to what I suggested during the pandemic.
- What exactly are you terrorized by or anxious about? Write it down and list it like a grocery list.
2 Do you have any control over this list?
If yes, plan your to do list
If no, take it off your list or off load
it to someone who can do something or
someone who will just listen.
3. Increase your self care;
Meditate more, pray more, exercise
more, play more, be in nature more
and eat well and healthier.
4. Interrupt your workday with 15
minute breaks to Walk (even in the
parking lot), Knit, etc. Sometimes 15
Minutes can return you to yourself
again. In fact Interrupt anything That's
making you feel disregulated with a 15
minute break. You will be surprised
how effective it is. DO NOT PLOW
THROUGH!
Declare a break instead!
5. Stop watching or listening to the news.
Limit your use of Social Media. It only
takes a day of doing this to feel better.
Don't forget when folks are getting crazier and on the proverbial "roller coaster of emotions" you need to stay on the ground. It does not help when you jump on the roller coaster with them!
As always we are available to discuss this and coach you.
