Sharing Our Pride in June with SAMHSA's Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity

During the month of June you'll have the opportunity to meet five of the most incredible people I've met in a long time. These unique individuals share their personal journeys as members of the LGBTQ+ community, with insightful stories that demonstrate courage and compassion for themself and for the those they serve. I truly can say it was an honor to visit with them, learn from them and be inspired by their stories.

Every Thursday in June, we'll drop a new podcast episode in recognition and celebration of Pride Month 2024. Starting June 6th our conversation is "Why Focus on LGBTQ+ People", with Angela Weeks, Project Director for SAMHSA’s Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity.

Listen to Prevention Perk

On June 13th, our guest Dr. Larry Bryant will discuss Supporting LGBTQ+ Older Adults & Understanding Historical Trauma.

Our discussion with Vida Khavar on June 20th will focus on why We have to Support Families of LGBTQ+ People.

Our series concludes on June 27th, with a discussion about What is Gender Affirming Care? with Elliott Orrin Hinkle (above) and Dr. Ashley Austin (right).

This project is a collaboration with SAMHSA's Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity (visit their resource page) and the Mid-America PTTC.

Learning that Never Ends Continues 6/27

Our Community of Practice series continued on May 25th with the DEI discussion "A Look at Privilege". Participants discussed a synopsis from the book White Fragility and answered four questions about their understanding and response to the information. If you'd like to download a copy of these points and the companion questions, click here.

Real World DEI: A Closer Look at Self-Assessment: Learning, unlearning or re-learning equitable and inclusive living is a process, and a personal one at that. Our conversation will focus on the moments and on-going changes, the a-ha moments, that a good self-assessment creates. We will also discuss how individual self-assessment can transform into organizational assessment - June 27th.

Creativity: Your Professional Spark: “Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while working.” – Henri Matisse. Oh, snap! Does it?! Whether it does or doesn’t, let’s talk about creativity, how we stoke it, how we grow it, and most importantly, how we do or don’t, can or cannot, bring our creative selves to our daily work lives - July 25th.

Leadership: Exploring 2 Types: Servant & Transformational: There are excellent reasons to practice these styles, and there are challenges as well. We will discuss how we practice these styles (whether we knew we did or not!), other styles of leadership that we use, challenges we experience in leading with these styles, and how we can continue to grow in our leadership journey - August 22nd.

These conversations are held from Noon to 1:00pm (CST) on the 4th Thursday of the month. Join our Community of Practice conversations with hosts Cindy Pharis and Steve Miller.
