Dear San Juan Island Community:

Many of you have come to the Co-op in recent days to stock your pantries, gather cleaning supplies, and nutritional supplements. We are thankful that we can stand as a benefit to this community for its needs.

I want you to know that we are maintaining appropriate health standards; cleaning door and cooler handles, propping open the front and side door, cleaning surfaces and disinfecting areas that get the most traffic. We are doing all we can to minimize risk to staff, volunteers, and members alike.

As staff and volunteers, we are self-monitoring - and also watching out for each other. No one will be working if they are showing any signs of sickness. Team members will be sent home, and covered by their sick-pay.

We've seen in the past weeks that our Co-op can offer a special place for essential services, which is very heartening.

As a precaution for the time being:

  • we will not be offering community coffee or tea until further notice
  • please use our bags for produce and bulk items; do not use your own bags
  • boxes are at the register for taking home your groceries
  • please do not donate used bags or jars until further notice

These are simply precautionary measures for all of us - staff, volunteers, and members alike. They are not intended to be long-term changes to the way the Co-op operates.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me at "Attn: Kristin" and I will reply as soon as possible.

Thank you for being such an amazing Community.

See you at the Co-op,

SJI Food Co-op Mission
