The Lake Current - June 10, 2018
|
|
Welcome to the June edition of our council newsletter! Here are a couple of quick (but important!) items before we get into the news:
- We are hosting a Third Degree Exemplification TODAY at 3:30 p.m. Candidates should arrive properly attired (jacket and tie) by 3 p.m. at our Council Hall. All current Third and Fourth Degree members should make a special point of attending today to support our Second Degree brothers on their journey to full knighthood in our honored Order!
- Our regular monthly business meeting is this Wednesday, June 13th starting at 7:30 p.m. As always we'll have some good food for everybody starting around 6:30 p.m. This is a very important meeting as we are holding our annual election of council officers as well as the annual meeting of our home corporation and election of directors. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Council Golf Outing A Hole in One!
It was a great day for Putnam's golfers and our council on Friday, June 8th, as we held our our annual
George Dean Memorial Golf Outing
! Putnam County Golf Course was in fantastic shape, and the golfers enjoyed a spectacular day on the links that included golfer swag, a delicious lunch, a beverage cart, and lots of fun and laughter.
After shooting a great round (some greater than others), our golfers came back to the council for appetizers, cocktails, a full filet mignon dinner and dessert, followed by an awards ceremony and lots of great raffle prizes.
Many thanks to our Golf Outing Committee, especially our tireless chairman
Anthony Falco
, for pulling off another great outing. Thanks also to the Dean Family, our golfers, our sponsors, the small but intrepid kitchen crew, and everybody who pitched in to make our major annual fundraiser such a great success.
Enjoy some pictures from our talented in-house photographer, Harry Gorman:

Founder's Award Presented to PGK
Bobby Palazzo
It was our great pleasure to bestow upon Past Grand Knight
Bobby Palazzo
our 2018 Trongone Award at our Founders Day Barbecue on Friday, May 25th. It was a very well deserved honor for our brother Bobby, who was presented with the award named after our founding Grand Knight, Angelo R. Trongone, as well with a special KofC membership pin for his 30 years of continuous service.
This had to be our best family barbecue in recent memory, and we had a great turnout of over 80 guests. As always, we served up tasty BBQ standards like burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, sausage and peppers, sliced steak, corn on the cob, baked beans, salads, and desserts! But this year, we also did a
pig roast
thanks to
Rich Dambra
, who marinated and roasted the pig to perfection!
Thanks to everyone who came out to honor Bobby and his family, and to all of our volunteers who shopped, prepped, cooked, served, and cleaned up so that our guests and our honoree could have such a great time.

Ladies Auxiliary News
Our very busy Ladies Auxiliary
gives us lots of good stuff to talk about!
On Sunday, May 20th, our Ladies hosted a very special
Pocketbook Bingo
event to raise funds for
Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley
. When the original venue, the St. James school gym, was left without power due to the severe storms, the Ladies demonstrated their ability to cope with adversity on the fly and moved the event to our council hall. And they did it without a hitch!
Not surprisingly, our Ladies were able to raise even more than the $7,500 that is needed to
fully fund
the wish of a local child!
Well done Ladies!!!
Then, on Thursday, May 24th, the Ladies Auxiliary held their
officer elections
. Current Vice President
Maria Barry was elected to the office of President
, where we're sure she will continue the outstanding work that the Auxiliary has done under outgoing President Gail Driscoll Silke. Maria will be sworn-in by the Grand Knight at an upcoming council meeting, after which she will swear in the other new officers of the Ladies Auxiliary.
After that meeting and elections, the men of our council served the Ladies a fabulous home cooked dinner that included cocktails, prosciutto and melon, summer salad, filet mignon with traditional side dishes, and desserts. This was our second
"Ladies Appreciation Dinner"
to thank them for all that they do for our council and our community. We hope it becomes an annual tradition at our council!
Finally, the Ladies have lots more exciting events coming up this year, including cash bingo resuming in the fall, the Penny Social in December, and a special
Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Saturday, October 20th
. More on that as we get closer, but save the date!

- Comedy Night - It was such a blast last time that we're doing it again! We'll be hosting another great night of comedy dinner theater on Saturday, September 15th. After what promises to be a delicious dinner, we'll be featuring some top-notch comedians including co-headliners Brad Lowery (from A&E’s “Caroline’s Comedy Hour” and CBS “Star Search”), Joe Moffa (star of the hit off-Broadway shows “Shut up, Sit down and Eat” and “My Big Fat Dysfunctional Life”), and the Comedy, Ventriloquism and Magic of Gemini (star of Vegas, the Palladium, Atlantic City and “America’s Funniest People”). - Feast of Saint James - The annual parish feast will be Thursday, July 18th through Saturday, July 21st. As usual, our council will be running the casino games and in charge of adult beverage sales, along with helping out in a variety of capacities including security, accounting, and food sales. Please sign up in the volunteer book in the parish office ASAP. We need more card dealers! Anybody wishing to deal in the casino should speak to Bobby Palazzo. Also, our friends in the Sausage Connection booth are shorthanded and could use some help with prep and cooking. Please volunteer to help them out if you can spare even a few hours.
