The Lake Current - April 2022

Welcome to the April 2022 edition of our Council newsletter!
Here are a couple of quick (but important!) notices before we get into the news:
-
Our regular monthly business meeting is Wednesday, April 13th, starting at 7:30 p.m. Our resident Frymaster, PGK Steve Gheduzzi, will be cooking up some favorites from the Fish Fry menu for dinner. Five bucks gets you a home-cooked dinner starting around 6:30 p.m. As always, there are many activities to plan for and important business news to share with the membership, so all members should attend!
-
Our Home Corporation, 6318 Associates, owns and maintains our Council's building, and is also responsible for the operation of our Lounge. They are looking for a member to step into the position of Treasurer, as Joe Groneman will be retiring after many years of dedicated service. Prospective candidates should preferably have an accounting degree and some experience preparing financial reports and simple tax returns. Please contact Corporation President Mike Tomassi or Vice President Anthony Falco for more information.

Fr. Tveit Honored by Our Council
We did not let one of our parish priests end his tenure here without expressing the gratitude of our Council!
Having served our parish for almost three years, Father Jon Tveit has been reassigned to a new parish. After celebrating his final Mass at St. James the Apostle Church on Sunday, March 27th, we presented him with a beautiful, custom plaque bearing the Emblem of the Order during a reception held in Doherty Hall.
|
|
Members of our Council were on hand as Grand Knight Ralph Fleischman made the presentation in front of a crowd of parishioners who turned out to wish Fr. Tveit a fond farewell.
Fr. Tveit is now the administrator of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, where he will be living with Bishop Gerardo Colacicco and a group of priests as they minister in parishes and schools across Dutchess County. Please pray for his continued success in serving the faithful in his ministry.

Fish Fry Fridays Set a New Record in 2022!
Our Council's wildly popular Lenten Fish Fry came to an end for 2022 on Friday, April 8th, setting an all-time record number of meals served.
Over its six-week run starting the Friday after Ash Wednesday, they served over 1,365 meals to help our Council members and fellow parishioners fulfill our Lenten obligation of abstinence from meat. Despite the challenges posed by supply problems and dramatically increased costs, every meal was carefully sourced, cooked to order, and served hot and fresh using only the highest quality ingredients.
Just for some perspective on Fish Fry's growth over the years, in 2015 -- our first year -- the Fish Fry Crew served a total of around 300 meals. Two years later, in 2017, they increased that to around 520 meals. In 2019 -- before the COVID pandemic -- their numbers soared to 1,200 meals. This year they shattered their own record by serving close to 1,400 meals!
The new ordering website worked nicely and received lots of compliments for its simplicity and efficiency. Fish Fry continued the "Seniors' Hour" and was pleased to have been able to re-open our Council Hall for dine-in service, after having been closed due to the pandemic.
Weekly specials this year included favorites like Lobster Mac & Cheese, New England Clam Chowder with Bread Bowls, Sole Piccata, and Fish Tacos. And the Crew rolled out a new special that got rave reviews: Seafood Paella, with clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, and gourmet seafood sausage.
Never resting on their laurels, the Crew is already planning a new special for next year, which they're keeping a secret for know, but they let slip its name: The Captain's Platter. We can't wait to try it out!
Our Council is grateful to all of our loyal Fish Fry supporters, many of whom placed orders all six weeks. And of course, a big shout out to our dedicated Fish Fry Crew that planned, shopped, prepped, took orders, cooked, served, cleaned-up, cashiered, and ran the order desk every week.
Even though Fish Fry is only one night a week, the work that goes into it takes place every day of the week. Without these tireless workers -- both upstairs in the kitchen and downstairs in the dining room -- none of this would be possible.
Even though they're exhausted, the Crew looks forward to doing it all again for us in Lent 2023!

"Spring to Comedy" Night A Smash-Hit!
Top-name comics played to a packed house at our sold-out night of food, fun, and laughs at our Council's comedy night on Saturday, April 2nd.
The crowd of comedy lovers started the evening by enjoying an open bar and a delicious Italian dinner catered by Luigi's Famiglia Cucina. After dinner, the show featured headliners Joe Moffa, Fat Jay, and Joseph Anthony. A good time was had by one and all.
Thanks to PGKs Bobby Palazzo and Charlie Grimmer for organizing another great night of comedy dinner theater at our Council!
