Welcome to the January 2021 edition of our Council newsletter!

A few quick but important items up-front before we get into the news.

  • Our next regular business meeting will be this Wednesday, January 13th, starting at 7:30 p.m. All members are welcome. Our Fish Fry Crew will be making a special preview dinner of their classic pub-style fish & chips, served at 6:30. Any member who wishes to participate by Zoom should send our webmaster an email (please don't wait for the last minute!) and he'll send you the link.

  • Bartenders Needed: Here's another reminder that our Home Corporation is looking for members who are interested in tending bar in our Lounge. Please speak with VP Anthony Falco or Director Pat Cassidy for more information.

  • Health Reminder: Please use good judgment in deciding whether to come to the Council for meetings or events. Stay home if you are not feeling well. Please do not come to the Council if you have been in contact with people who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who have symptoms of COVID-19; or if you have been in close contact with people who are in quarantine or isolation, or with people who may have been recently exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual. All persons entering the Council are expected to observe social distancing and wear face coverings when and where appropriate.
Chicken Wing Smackdown Fundraiser this Saturday

Come down to the Council this Saturday, January 16th, for an afternoon and evening of food, fun, friendly competition, and fundraising for a great cause.

Our Lounge will open at 3 p.m. and the football games will be on in the Lounge and on the big screen in our Council hall. (First game starts at 4:30.)

Your $25 admission fee gets you one draft beer, wings, mozzarella sticks, pulled pork sliders and more! Food will be served at 5:00, which should fall into halftime of the second game.

We'll have the outdoor fire-pit roaring and Sir Knight John Crecco will bring his guitar for some great entertainment.

Proceeds will benefit a very important cause: Putnam County's Joseph P. Dwyer Vet-2-Vet program, our local (and invaluable) peer-to-peer networking service for veterans and military service members!

And get in on the chicken wing cookoff! Bring at least a half-tray of your best chicken wings to enter our Wings Smackdown.

Contact GK Ralph to RSVP so we know how much food to make, and because indoor attendance must be limited to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
Holiday Blood Drive An Incredible Success!

We raised 113 units of blood at the annual holiday Blood Drive on December 26th! That a very impressive tally for any drive, but especially so considering it was the day after Christmas and that it had to be by appointment only to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.

The Greater New York Blood Bank always reports blood shortages around the Christmas and New Year's holiday period, and our members always come through in a pinch (so to speak).

Sincere thanks to all the donors, and also to all the volunteers who help make this happen, especially our own brother Knight Denis Hanrahan, for whom organizing our semi-annual blood drives is a labor of love.
Win $5,000 in our Ladies Auxiliary Super Raffle!

There's still time to get in on our Ladies Auxiliary Super Raffle!

Our Ladies Auxiliary donates thousands of dollars every year to numerous worthwhile charities and causes, most of which are right here in our own community. This year, however, the pandemic forced cancellation of many of their fundraisers. So they're holding a very special "Super Raffle" with a grand prize of $5,000!

There will be only 200 tickets sold, and there are also $750 and $250 prizes in addition to the grand prize. So you have a really good chance of winning, and you also know that your donation for a ticket is going to some really great charities.

Buy your tickets at the Council at any of our events, speak to Ladies Auxiliary President Allison Keating or Vice President Kim Crecco, or send them an email for more information on purchasing tickets.

MEETING NOTICE

The next meeting of Mother Cabrini Assembly will be Thursday, January 21st at our Council.

Before the meeting, there will be a dinner prepared by SK Mike Tarr for Assembly members. We'll also put together our annual dues mailing.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Members will be able to purchase and pick up tickets to sell for our 2021 "Night Out on the Sir Knights" Year of Dinners Raffle.

All Fourth Degree Sir Knights are welcome and encouraged to attend.

  • Crèche Take-Down - Thanks to all of the brothers who turned out to take down the St. James Nativity Scene on Saturday, January 9th. We got the stable disassembled, the figures and stable sections put into storage, and the site in front of the rectory cleaned up -- all in about an hour. We also took down the Christmas decorations at the Council. As we always say, "Many hands make light work."

  • Fish Fry 2021 - We are very hopeful to be able to hold our annual Lenten Fish Fry Fridays starting on February 19th. We are currently discussing how to best carry out these events under the current restrictions. At the least, we are planning to do take-out orders. We are also considering whether we can do limited dine-in service. Members interested in helping out should watch for a meeting notice, at which we will work on the details of the plan.
