The Lake Current - September 2021

|
Welcome to the September 2021 edition of our Council newsletter!
As usual, here are a few quick but important items up-front before we get into the news.
-
Our next regular business meeting will be Monday, September 13th, starting at 7:30 p.m. All members are welcome. We'll be serving dinner for members at 6:30.
-
Our Lounge will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays during football season starting this Thursday.
-
At our business meeting you will have an opportunity to reserve and pre-pay for our Oktoberfest to avoid the online sales fee. Advance ticket purchase is absolutely required; there will be no walk-ins. We will also have Oktoberfest 50/50 tickets at the meeting, which you can purchase or pick up to help out with sales. This event is an important fundraiser for St. James Parish, and it will require more volunteers than usual. We need volunteers to serve as waiters, table bussers, runners, servers, cleaners, and more to make this the success we need it to be to help out our parish. More info is in the news item below, but come to the meeting to learn more and volunteer!
-
We need help selling the Oktoberfest 50/50 raffle tickets after Masses at St. James and Our Lady of the Lakes churches on Saturdays and Sundays for the next few weeks. Please contact GK Ralph to get tickets and sign up for a Mass to help us cover them all.
-
Tickets to hold your reservation for our incredible 50th Anniversary Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony are now on sale. Please see the item below and make your reservations before October 16th. There is also a link to purchase an ad in our special, large-format souvenir journal. Take out an ad to congratulate our honorees or to promote your business or organization.

Putnam 9/11 Memorial Ceremony This Saturday
Putnam County’s observation of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks will be held on Saturday, September 11th, 2021, at the Putnam Heroes Memorial located at Cornerstone Park, 1 Fair St. in Carmel. The Candlelight Vigil will start at 7:00 p.m.
With an abundance of caution, due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Delta Variant resulting in potential health hazards, the Putnam Heroes Memorial Committee, in consultation with the County Health Department, is requiring all guests congregating inside Cornerstone Park to wear a mask. Those gathering outside the park will be encouraged to wear a mask.
Fair Street will be closed from Vink Drive to Route 52 at 6:15 p.m.
To aid in social distancing, Route 52 will be closed from Route 301 to Fowler Ave at 6:30 p.m.
The Candlelight Vigil will be live-streamed on the Putnam County website (www.putnamcountyny.com/911candlelightvigil). The website also contains photos from past ceremonies and September 11th memorials throughout Putnam County.
This public health concern is an ever-changing situation which may require a last minute reevaluation, so please continue to check the County website and local media. In the event of any technical difficulties, the ceremony will be available for viewing on the County website after the service.
There will also be a Mass of Remembrance at St. James the Apostle Church at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Oktoberfest for St. James Parish - Oct. 9th!
Join us on Saturday, October 9th for authentic German food, German beer, and live German music from the famous Austrian Boys Band!
Last year's event was such a great success that we're doing it the same way this year. This is once again a fundraiser for St. James the Apostle Parish and School, which was forced to cancel its annual summer Feast of St. James again in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. That was another major hit to our parish's finances, and we're going to donate proceeds from Oktoberfest to help them out.
Last year's Oktoberfest raised $5,000 for the parish and school, and we're hoping to do even better this year -- with your help!
To give more opportunities for our guests to help us raise funds, we're serving dinner in four 2-hour seatings in our dining room and also outside under a tent in our beer garden. The seatings start at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and run for about 1 hour 45 minutes.
You must purchase tickets in advance for a seating. There are no walk-ins or sales at the door.
For your $30 donation you will receive admission, appetizers, dinner, dessert, live music, and one draft German beer. Additional beer will be available for purchase.
FEATURING THESE TRADITIONAL DINNER OFFERINGS:
Full Schnitzel Dinner: Pork schnitzel with hunter gravy, red cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans amandine, garden salad, pumpernickel roll & butter.
OR
Wurst Platter: Grilled bratwurst and knackwurst, homestyle sauerkraut (cabbage, onions, meat), German potato salad, garden salad, European-style hard roll.
Fresh apple strudel, coffee & tea for dessert.
You may also purchase either entree to-go for $15. To-go order tickets are sold separately at the link above. Please add a note stating what time you would like to pick up your to-go order (12-7 p.m.).
Our lounge and driveway will be open for guests before and after their dinner seatings.
Seating is very limited, so buy your tickets today!!!!

Buy Your Tickets for Our Golden Anniversary Gala - November 6th
In recognition of the founding of our Council on November 4, 1971, we're celebrating our 50th Anniversary Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 6th at 7 p.m.! Fine dining, open bar, music, dancing, raffles, and recognition of our members who do so much to make our Council so special.
The venue for our "Golden Gala" will be the prestigious Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury, Connecticut. We've secured the hotel's most beautiful space, where we'll enjoy a cocktail hour, open bar, buffet dinner, dancing, photo booth, and entertainment. The cost is $125 per guest, and it is sure to be well worth the price for this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Pay the balance of $100 by October 16th by check dropped off or mailed to the Council (10 Fair Street, Carmel, NY 10512). [We're only selling tickets for reservations online because Eventbrite's fees for a full-price ticket would be considerably more.]
We've also made arrangements with the hotel for a block of rooms for our guests at discounted rates. Click here or call (800) 742-1776 (mention "Knights of Columbus") and make your room reservations today!
This year we are honoring as our "Knight of the Year" brother Knight Patrick Cassidy, and as "Family of the Year," The Heis Family!
We are going to have a large-format (8.5x11") souvenir journal this year with additional color pages in the center. Please click here to take an ad to honor a special person or group, or congratulate the Council on five decades of Charity, Unity and Fraternity:
Reservations and pre-payment are absolutely required. No walk-ins and no sales at the door. All reservations must be made by October 16th.
The night will start at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour with plenty of hors d’oeuvres, followed by a great buffet dinner, our brief awards ceremony, entertainment and dancing, and delicious desserts & coffee. Open bar all night!
The full cost per person is $125. Each ticket you purchase on Eventbrite holds your reservation with a $25 down-payment.
All ticket sales end October 16th. No reservations or sales after October 16!

Members of Our Council to be Honored at West-Put Chapter Awards Gala
The 19th Annual Westchester-Putnam Chapter Awards Gala will be on Sunday, November 14th, at Mulino's at Lake Isle in Eastchester from noon to 5 p.m.
Last year's celebration had to be postponed from its usual time in March due to COVID-19. It was combined with the annual Seminarian's Dinner in November, but unfortunately, that too was canceled. We're very pleased to announce that the combined Gala and Seminarian's Dinner will go forward this year!
The cost is $70 per person, which includes a fantastic cocktail hour, dinner, desert, wine, beer and soda. (See the event flyer, below.) We typically carpool down to Eastchester from the Council, so you should be able to get a ride if you need (or just want) one.
Our Council and Ladies Auxiliary will be honoring PGK Rob Firriolo and Ladies Auxiliary Treasurer Josette Firriolo for their many years of dedicated service to our Council. These worthy honorees were announced by then-GK Steve Gheduzzi early last year, but they never got to enjoy their special day due to the pandemic.
The Chapter Gala allows Knights from all over Westchester and Putnam to share in recognition of the people who make their Councils and Assemblies so special. And they're a tremendous amount of fun! At the last Gala, our Council had three full tables to honor PGK Mike McDonald, and everybody left promising to come back for the next one.
Please speak to GK Ralph to reserve your spot, so that we make sure to book enough tables for our Council's delegation, which is usually the largest (and loudest) in the house! The deadline for reservations is October 22nd.
