Welcome to the March 2026 edition of our Council newsletter!

As usual, a few quick but important items right up-front:

• Our next regular business meeting will be Wednesday, March 11th, starting at 7:30 p.m. Dinner for $5 will be at 6:30, as usual. All members are welcome. We will be presenting a donation to St. James Parish with the proceeds from our 2026 Men's Beefsteak Dinner. PLEASE BRING YOUR 2026 MEMBERSHIP CARD WITH YOU!

• On Sunday, April 12th, we will be honoring Sir Knight Phil Larkin at the 23rd Annual Westchester-Putnam Chapter Awards Gala. This year we're in a new venue - Cortland Colonial Manor. The gala starts at 1 p.m. and the cost is reduced to $90 per person, which includes a cocktail hour, dinner, desert, wine, beer & soda, and an open bar for mixed drinks throughout the gala. The deadline for reservations is March 28th. Please send in your payment if you have made your reservations! You may also pay in-person at Wednesday night's meeting, where we will be able to accept credit cards.

Tommy Feighery Leads Local St. Pat's Parade

It was a great day for the Irish -- and also for our Council and community -- when brother Sir Knight Tommy Feighery led the 49th Annual Northern Westchester / Putnam St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 8th.

The parade is New York State’s third-largest, and consisted this year of 64 units spread across six divisions, with Tommy serving as Grand Marshal. The crowd, estimated at more than 7,500, cheered the marchers as they proceeded along Route 6 in Mahopac.

Please see last month's edition of the Lake Current for our story on Tommy and his full biography, which leaves no doubt why he was such a worthy choice for this honor.

In addition to congratulating Tommy, let's also thank the many members of our Council and Ladies Auxiliary who work so hard on the committee to make the parade so exceptional, including Chairman Pat O'Malley, Corresponding Secretary Kathy O'Neill, Treasurer Bernie Cummins, Band Coordinator Gail Silke, Lineup Coordinator Maria Barry, and our Council's representative to the Parade Committee, PGK Mike McDonald.

Thanks also to our own Anthony Falco for once again taking the lead on preparing the outstanding corned beef dinner, and to his crew and our bartenders, all of whom pull off the best after-parade reception in all of Putnam County. Well done brothers and Ladies!

Fish Fry Fridays Are Underway!

Our beloved Lenten Fish Fry Fridays started up again on February 20th and continue every Friday in Lent (except Good Friday) from 4:30-7:30 p.m.!

All of the great features are back, including Seniors' Hour, affordable made-to-order meals, online ordering, dine-in and take-out service -- and of course our fan favorite weekly specials. (If you're not familiar with how we do Fish Fry, click here and check out the item in the March 2025 newsletter for all of the details).

This year's specials have already included Lobster Mac & Cheese, Crab Cake Sliders, New England Clam Chowder, and Sole Piccata. This week is another very popular offering: Fish Soft Tacos! Those specials are all in addition to our regular menu of delicious entrees available each week.

You may be interested to hear that we've held the line on prices even though our costs have soared on some key products we use. Most notably, the wild-caught Pacific cod that we use for our Fish & Chips and other dishes has pretty much doubled in price from last year. The jumbo shrimp we use has also gone up considerably.

So while we'll have less money from profits to donate to charity, we think it is more important to keep our meals as affordable as possible for our members and fellow parishioners. And of course, we could buy cheaper product (like farm-raised fish from China), but we don't, because we will not compromise on quality.

As a reminder, you must pre-order in advance by using our order website: carmelfishfry.com. No phone or walk-in orders, please! 

All orders must be placed online by 7 p.m. on the Thursday before the upcoming Friday. As always, quantities on our weekly specials are limited and frequently sell-out. So order early!

Comedy Night Returns for Mothers Day!

Make your reservations for our next night of Comedy Dinner Theater on Saturday, May 9th, just in time for Mothers Day. Take the mothers in your life out for a great dinner and show!

This is another fabulous three-headliner show featuring top local comics from major entertainment venues and media appearances. Enjoy the show after a delicious dinner catered by Luigi's Famiglia Cucina of Carmel.

Cash Bingo is Back Starting March 22nd!

Our Ladies Auxiliary presents another fun afternoon of Cash Bingo on Sunday, March 22nd.

Doors open 1 p.m. First game is at 2 p.m.

Your $35 (if prepaid!) gets you admission and all-nighters. Extra Specials and Bell Jar tickets will be sold.

Walk-ins will pay $40 at the door -- if there are any remaining seats.

Proceeds will be donated to a very worthy local charity: Gianna's House, which provides free pregnancy support, education, and resources in a caring, confidential environment.

There will be a concessions table, but feel free to bring your own snacks. Complimentary coffee and tea will be available.

No persons under age 18 permitted.

Fourth Degree News

MEETING NOTICE

The next meeting of Mother Cabrini Assembly will be Thursday, March 19th, at our Council. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All Fourth Degree Sir Knights are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Please return your stubs and money for tickets sold for the Assembly's 2026 "Night Out on the Sir Knights" Year of Dinners Raffle. Additional tickets will be available at the meeting and prize drawings will begin shortly.

NEWS

* There will be a Fourth Degree Exemplification at Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester on Saturday, April 25th. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the ceremony starts at 10 a.m.. It will be followed by a luncheon at nearby Port Chester Council. Please speak with Worthy GK Rick Kreps or Faithful Navigator Mike Vrabel if you are interested in receiving the honors of the highest degree of Knighthood in our Order.

* The Mother Cabrini Color Corps served as Honor Guard at a very special Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac on Sunday, March 1st. Celebrated by Bishop Gerardo Colacicco, first-class relics of Saint John Paul II and Saint Faustina Kowalska were installed. They were acquired by Father Szymon during his parish pilgrimage to Poland last September. Among the pilgrims on that trip were our own Purser Rob Firriolo, PFN, his wife Josette, and his son, Assembly Trustee Robby Firriolo.

The relic of St. John Paul II comes from a piece of the blood-soaked material saved by the nuns who cared for him after the 1981 assassination attempt on the Pope.

St. Faustina Kowalska was a Polish nun who died in 1938 at age 33. She is known for her visions of Jesus and for spreading devotion to the Divine Mercy — a message later championed by St. John Paul II when he was Pope.

The relics are contained within beautiful reliquaries, now permanently displayed next to the church altar alongside the Divine Mercy image. That painting, also brought back from Poland last year, is a hand-painted copy of the original one directed by St. Faustina, recreated with permission from the sisters at the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Kraków, visited during the pilgrimage.

Make a point of stopping by St. John's to see these important relics for yourself, and spend some time to honor and venerate them.

• Apr. 7 (Tue): West/Put St. Patrick's Day Parade Awards - The Parade Committee will be presenting the awards for the best groups in the parade starting at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

• April 11 (Sat.): Special Olympics Volunteers Needed – Lend a hand for the Time Trials at Mahopac High School (421 Baldwin Place). Arrive by 9 a.m. and you'll be done before 1 p.m. This is a great opportunity to volunteer with your child or grandchild – they can get service hours, you can show your charitable spirit, and you both can share a great memory. Please wear your Knights of Columbus hat or jacket. (This is an outdoor event, so dress for the weather!) If you have any questions, please contact brother Knight Chris Cohen by email.



• April 24 (Fri.): Game Night – Last year's Game Night presented by our Ladies Auxiliary was such a tremendously fun time that they're doing it again! More details in next month's newsletter, but plan to be there and get your game on!

• May 22 (Fri): Summer Kickoff BBQ and Founders' Award Ceremony - Save the date for our annual family barbecue and pig roast where we'll honor a special brother Knight who has provided exemplary service to our Council. It is always an incredible feast and an important occasion, where we recognize the brothers who have made our Council so successful over the years. Bring the whole family and kickoff summer the right way!

• Jun 5 (Fri): George Dean Memorial Golf Outing - Get your foursome together, take a sponsorship, and make your reservations for our outdoor event-of-the-year and most important annual fundraiser for our Council's activities. Watch for details shortly.
