The University of Kentucky’s College of Public Health and campus community showed up in strong numbers at our various events during the 2022 National Public Health Week (April 4-8). Thank you to everyone that helped in making this week successful, and a special recognition to Jillian Faith for leading the charge!

News, Events, and Stories
On April 21, 2022, the UK community will come together to celebrate the university’s giving day and support their favorite college, program or cause. This year, CPH is asking the public entire community to support the new "Student Support Fund", which is designed to help our students who are experiencing a financial need or monetary crisis/emergency while enrolled in the college.

Dr. Anna Hoover recently chaired a multidisciplinary panel discussion at the 2022 Kentucky Conference on Health Communication (KCHC) entitled “Using Health Communication Strategies to Inform Research Report-Back and Build Environmental Health Literacy in Rural Communities”. The panel session highlighted three research projects involving faculty & staff from CPH and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, Agriculture, CAFE and Medicine.

Dr. Beth Lacy (EPI) is giving a virtual presentation on leveraging clinical data to inform diabetes care: from dementia to diabetic ketoacidosis at the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Visiting Scholars program on Friday, April 15.

The goal of this program is to offer the opportunity to serve as a visiting professor and help make connections with faculty and to foster an exchange of ideas and collaboration among different hubs.

The CHET Equity Changemaker Award recognizes UK faculty members whose health equity research has contributed to the elimination of health disparities and inequities among marginalized and oppressed groups, and whose mentorship has improved diversity, equity, and inclusion within the next generation of health equity scholars. Application deadline is April 22nd, 2022!

Interested in computation and data analytics? The University of Kentucky's Center for Computational Science (CCS) is hosting the 5th Annual Commonwealth Virtual Computational Summit on April 12th and 13th. This event is free for faculty, staff, and students.

Dr. Dave Fardo (BST) will be participating in the Data Science Panel, discussing the data science challenges and opportunities in research and education across Kentucky.

Severe weather is an ongoing risk to Kentucky workers. As we head into severe weather season, the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Surveillance (KOSHS) program recently released a Hazard Alert that focuses on severe weather response and recovery.

Shaowli Kabir, PhD Candidate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, is presenting her doctoral defense "A novel nonparametric test for heterogeneity detection and assessment of fluid removal among CRRT patients in ICU" on April 19th at 2pm.

2022 John P. Wyatt Environment & Health Symposium

The 2022 John P. Wyatt, M.D. Environment & Health Symposium honors the legacy of Dr. John Wyatt whose pioneering environmental clinical research will be honored on Earth Day, April 22, 2022.

The 2022 Symposium is a Kentucky-wide symposium focusing on climate-related disasters and health. Universities and agencies from across the Commonwealth have joined forces to address the health impacts of disasters and climate change.

Center for Innovation in Population Health

The Center for Innovation in Population Health presents a free webinar: " What if homelessness was not just about housing, but also about trauma recovery?” on Tuesday, April 12th.

Featuring Dr. Natalie Pope, an Associate Professor and PhD Program Director at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work, and Dr. Sarah Ascienzo, Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at North Carolina State University. This online event is free and open to all.
