News, Events, and Stories
The U.S. News & World Report ranks the University of Kentucky College of Public Health No. 45 overall (tied at No. 27 among public schools) in the recent 2023 Best Graduate Schools in Public Health. This ranking moves the college up nine spots from the previous year and to a top 25% public health program in the nation.

For 24 hours on April 21, 2022, the UK community will come together to celebrate the university’s giving day, One Day for UK, and support their favorite college, program or cause. This year, CPH is asking its entire community to support the new "Student Support Fund", which is designed to help our students who are experiencing a financial need or monetary crisis/emergency while enrolled in the college.

This project is led by CPH's environmental health scientist Dr. Erin Haynes, who previously tested hundreds of children in Southeastern Ohio and found a correlation between high manganese levels in the body and low IQ scores. “I’m interested in the Southeast Side of Chicago because the community raised the problem themselves and they have the right to know if the manganese in their environment is adversely affecting their children," says Haynes.

April Fernando, PhD, is one of the Associate Directors at the Center for Innovation in Population Health (IPH Center). She oversees the Workforce Development team, which provides training for and implementation of the Transformational Collaborative Outcomes Management (TCOM) approach and TCOM tools to different jurisdictions, states, counties, regions, and organizations.

Ann L. Coker, PhD, MPH, has won several awards for her work in interpersonal violence prevention and has been featured as a guest speaker at conferences, which she said is validating but not the biggest honor. “While awards or invitations to speak are validating, the honor is the opportunity to do the work and hopefully make a difference in preventing violence or other negative health outcomes.”

The release of the 1950 Census records is scheduled for April 1, 2022, which is a real landmark because of the post-WWII advances in data quality. These free virtual courses will walk you through the multi-step process and introduce you to many important resources for accessing and using these records.

Ramadan 2022
Ramadan is the Muslim month of fasting. This year, Ramadan will last approximately from April 2nd to May 2nd. Practicing Muslims will be fasting from dawn until dusk with NO FOOD and NO WATER. Muslim students may be tired, hungry, and dehydrated. It is important we express our solidarity and support as they recognize and take part in Ramadan.
