The recent flooding in Eastern Kentucky has caused massive devastation in an area of our Commonwealth that we all hold dear. This type of crisis, while unfortunate and heartbreaking, is why we are called to serve and do this type of work in public health -- we must do our part to take care of each other.

You're invited to the "Pump It Up" Celebration event
Please help us celebrate and welcome future public health scientists and practitioners at the "Pump It Up" Celebration. This will be a special time to recognize students, faculty, and staff as we enter an exciting new year.

A (short) formal program will include induction of students into the Pump Handle Society and special speakers. The program will be followed by a time to celebrate, re-charge, eat, and have fun together.

Dr. Erin Haynes served on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Committee on Guidance on PFAS Testing and Health Outcomes. The Committee's report on expanding testing for people with an elevated exposure history of PFAS -perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which are chemicals that contaminate many communities in the United States - is now available.

Dr. Rada Choate is presenting at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) on the “Prevalence, Clinical Characteristics, and Association Between Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease and Cognitive Status in a Cohort of Elderly Adults" on August 1st. This conference brings together the world’s leading researchers in Alzheimer’s disease.

The Angel Initiative proactively helps individuals battling substance use or misuse find treatment options that best fit their needs. This brief covers intake data for the Angel Initiative Program in 2020, which is operated by the Kentucky State Police.

Individuals seeking help can visit any Kentucky State Police (KSP) post and an intake officer will work with them to quickly locate a treatment facility within the state with availability.

The Center for Innovation in Population Health is involved in an annual conference that supports those in child welfare, behavioral health, mental health, and other systems of care. The 2022 TCOM Conference will be hosted in-person in New Orleans, LA September 21-23, 2022 and virtually September 26-27, 2022.
