New book explores Appalachian health issues

A new award-winning book, "Appalachian Health: Culture, Challenges, and Capacity”, explores the myriad health issues and challenges facing the people of Appalachia, which was co-edited by the late Dr. F. Douglas Scutchfield and published by the University Press of Kentucky.

Department of Biostatistics welcomes new faculty member, Dr. Hongbin Zhang

CPH officially welcomes a new faculty member, Dr. Hongbin Zhang, to the department of Biostatistics (BST), effective July 1, which further demonstrates public health’s commitment to promoting biostatisticians as team scientists.

Dana Quesinberry elected as Faculty Council chair

Congrats to Dana Quesinberry, the newly elected chair to the Faculty Council at CPH. Other members of faculty council include: Anna Kucharska-Newton (EEH), Emily Slade, (BST), and Corrine Williams (HBS).


“Our new Faculty Council is excited to represent the college faculty," says Dana. "We appreciate the work of the previous council to develop the College By-Laws. We are committed to implementing the By-Laws and reengaging our faculty in the shared governance of the College.”

KCH, KIPRC and Kosair Charities launch safe medication campaign to protect children

Every nine minutes, a young child goes to the emergency department because they ingested medicine incorrectly. To bring awareness to the importance of safe medication storage in the home, the Kosair Charities Face It Movement has collaborated with the Kentucky Children's Hospital and KIPRC on a new campaign aimed at preventing these accidental ingestions and keeping children healthy and safe. 

University of Kentucky Back-to-School Drives - Kentucky Blood Center

Roll up your sleeve and save up to three lives at the University of Kentucky’s fall blood drives!


Donate blood Sept. 6-9 at UK campus drives to boost the blood supply. Blood donated with Kentucky Blood Center goes to local patients in need of blood to aid with cancer treatments, premature births, surgeries, anemia, car accidents and more.
