The Epidemiology and Environmental Health (EEH) department at the UK College of Public Health wants to help protect residents in flood-affected areas who are returning to and/or cleaning up damaged structure in Eastern Kentucky. These flood and safety resources from the CDC, NCHH, NIH, NEHA, and others, provide proper ways to clean up hazardous areas.

"Pump It Up" Celebration event - You're Invited!
Let's all come together to welcome future public health scientists and practitioners at the "Pump It Up" Celebration. This will be a special time to recognize students, faculty, and staff as we enter an exciting new year.

As flood clean-up continues in eastern Kentucky, there are hazards and risks that still pose a danger to people living there, and also to those helping with relief efforts.

“It’s important that people know that although they want their home to be a safe haven after the flood, somewhere to return to that is safe, it is not” said Dr. Erin Haynes, Chair of Epidemiology and Environmental Health.

Department of Biostatistics faculty and staff, Dr. Amanda Ellis, Dr. Emily Slade, and Dr. Tony Mangino, are presenting at the 2022 Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM) international conference held in Washington, DC, August 6-11.

JSM is one of the largest conferences in the world, with more than 6,500 attendees from 52 countries, and topics ranging from statistical applications, methodology and theory, and expanding boundaries of statistics, such as analytics and data science.

Dr. Maureen Jones, MHA Program Director, was recently announced as a new member of the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education's Standards Council, which continuously reviews and improves the accreditation criteria and recommends revisions for approval by the Board of Directors.

Ashley Carroll is a current online student in our MPH program with a concentration in Health Systems and Policy Analytics. Ashley is satisfying her practicum requirement by gaining valuable experiential learning at the Kentucky Department for Public Health's Student Internship Program, while serving on their Public Health Workforce Development Team.

The 2022 Kentucky Harm Reduction Summit, which will highlight best practices, statutes, and policies related to implementing and maintaining harm reduction programs throughout the state, will be held on Aug. 10-11. The theme for this year’s virtual Summit is “Ending the Epidemics."

Dr. Serenity Wright, Associate Director of Social Innovation at UK Innovate, will be available to chat with CPH faculty and staff members on August 15. This Pop-Up Office (in-person or virtual options) is to offer those who may be interested in social entrepreneurial thinking, planning, and creating for their endeavors to chat with Dr. Wright on how to add "social innovation" into their projects.
