The University of Kentucky's spring 2022 Commencement Ceremonies was held on May 6th and 7th at the Central Bank Center at Rupp Arena. The UK College of Public Health students, faculty, and staff showed up to help celebrate this momentous occasion.

A chance occurrence helped to shape the path of Ashley Duff’s senior year at the University of Kentucky. After seeing a promotion for the CPH 395 course, the UK undergraduate student noticed one of the faculty mentors for the independent study course was Dr. Angela Carman.

Sukruthi Yerramreddy and Dr. Marc Kiviniemi are the epitome of why undergraduate research and faculty mentorship are so valuable to the learning and development process of our future health champions.

Dr. Krystle Kuhs, Associate Professor in Epidemiology, and colleagues, led a study to ask the question of whether changes within the HPV genome could potentially influence the aggressiveness of HPV-driven oropharyngeal cancer (HPV-OPC), which is a type of throat cancer caused by oral HPV infection and rapidly increasing incidence in the US.

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees approved 14 University Research Professorships for the 2022-23 academic year, including Dr. David Fardo, Professor of Biostatistics, Stephen W. Wyatt Endowed Professor of Public Health at CPH.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Senior Medical Advisor Aubrey Miller, M.D., recently received the 2022 John P. Wyatt, M.D. Environment and Health Award on Earth Day in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the environment and health.

CPH sponsors recent KPHA 2022 Spring Conference
CPH was proud to be a sponsor of the recent KPHA 2022 Spring Conference in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Thank you Kelsey Gatton, Janie Cambron, and Sara Wackerbarth for representing us and discussing our academic programs, gathering ideas for workforce development training, and much more.
Meghan Steel is an epidemiologist for the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center. She has roots in Kentucky but grew up in Texas before attending the University of Alabama and then the University of Texas Medical Branch for her master’s degree.
