Each year in the summer, CPH provides several research fellowships for current undergraduate students interested in working on a research project with up to $3,000 in funding along with a faculty mentor. Current CPH students Kangai Miriti, Katie Boroughs, and Rose Wood were selected to participate in this year's valuable summer research opportunity.
Congratulations to our faculty, Dr. Ketrell McWhorter and Dr. Sarah Cprek, in their announcement to the Teaching Innovation Institute 2022/23 faculty cohort by the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the University of Kentucky. This cross-disciplinary learning opportunity for reflective practice helps faculty see their teaching, students, and disciplines in a new light.

Promotions awarded to CPH faculty, effective July 1
Five CPH faculty have earned promotions! They include DEEH faculty: Dr. Erin Abner, professor (tenured); Dr. Jay Christian, associate professor with tenure; Dr. Krystle Kuhs, associate professor awarded tenure; and Dr. April Young, professor (tenured) along with HBS faculty, Dr. April Fernando, associate professor. 
Alum, Dr. Scott Keel, recognized at 2022 ACPM Conference
MPH alum ('22), Dr. Scott Keel, pictured middle, was selected by the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) to present as a poster at the recent national conference in Denver. The title of his work is, "Recharge Moments: A Pilot Study to Improve Mindfulness in the Workplace." Dr. Keel was also recognized as a 2002 recipient of the Jacob and Heather Adams Resident Scholarship for his early contributions to Preventive Medicine.
Dr. John Lyons, IPH Center Director, will be a keynote speaker for the Association of Children's Residential & Community (ACRC) 66th Annual Conference on July 12, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky.

His keynote, "Making the Match: Intentional Use of Data to Drive Decision Making" will briefly review the history of decision-making regarding the use of residential treatment for children and youth and then provide an update on the current state of best practices.
 
This report is based on data from possession and trafficking citations, drug overdose-related deaths, emergency department visits, hospitalizations, submissions to the state police lab, and general drug overdose-related events on six major substances in Kentucky from January 1, 2017–September 31, 2021.
