ABOUT WILLIAM JEANES:

For more than 35 years, William ("don't call me Bill") Jeanes was a major figure in automotive journalism. He began as a freelancer in the 1970s, became a staff writer at Car and Driver and, after 10 years in the ad agency business, became the editor-in-chief at the magazine. He was senior VP and group publisher at Hachette Magazines, and founded Classic Automobile Register and AMI Auto World Weekly. He was an adjunct professor of English at Millsaps, writer-in-residence at Northwestern University, has lectured at a number of universities, and, as president of the American Racing Press Association, received the 1996 Mario Andretti Excellence in Media award. Jeanes has earned numerous awards for his writings in automotive and mainstream magazines, including a gold medal in 2013 from the International Automotive Media Awards, eight IAMA awards, and other gold awards for his work in advertising. He served 43 months on active duty with the Navy, mostly aboard the USS Intrepid, and left the Navy as a Lieutenant. Mostly retired, he lives in Ridgeland, Mississippi, with wife Susan.
