On Thursday, September 17, 2020, the Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce, DCR Chamber of Commerce and other local chambers presented the 2020 Leaders in Local Government Awards. The Leader in Local Government Awards honor the people and organizations who exemplify innovation, excellence, and success in local government.

This years award winners are:

  • Business Retention and Expansion: City of Rosemount
  • Communications & Marketing: Saint Paul Port Authority
  • Innovation: Metro Transit Police Department Homeless Action Team
  • Planning, Land Use and Public Works: City of Vadnais Heights
  • Public Safety: Maplewood Police Department
  • Elected Official of Note Award: Dakota County Commissioner Thomas Egan

Big congratulations to the City of Rosemount and Dakota County Commissioner Thomas Egan, both have been long standing partners and supporters of the DCR Chamber of Commerce.
The City of Rosemount Economic Development department has been an asset to the city, with efforts such as hiring an additional staff member, sharing creative posts on social media regarding the city and promoting local businesses. The City of Rosemount also created the Rosemount CARES grant program and allocated $500,000 towards it, which provided $10,000 grants for small businesses affected by COVID. They also developed branded marketing materials and templates, which were a big help to the business community.
Thomas Egan represents residents in the cities of Eagan, Lilydale, Mendota and Mendota Heights. Egan spent more than 35 years as a practicing attorney and has been instrumental in governing the city of Eagan for more than two decades as mayor and city councilmember from 1978–1998. Egan’s participation in local government continued as he served on the Metropolitan Council during the Ventura and Pawlenty administrations from 2002–2004. Just one year later, Egan became Dakota County commissioner for District 3 and has held the seat ever since.
