Justice and Witness Ministry Letter

Dear local church leaders and congregants,

Our Justice and Witness Ministry group has been working to figure out ways to help our local churches engage more around the resolutions that passed in our conference last fall. If you would like to arrange for someone from JWM to come and lead a workshop or 'talkback' about a resolution, we pray you will let us know (plymouthpastor@uccplymouth.org). While it may be hard to schedule, we want to offer support for local churches to engage in the justice work connected to conference as well as the national setting.

As a reminder, the resolutions pertain to creation care, reproductive rights and the support and affirmation of trans folks. They may be found here.

Simply scroll towards the bottom of the page to find each resolution.

Grace and peace,

Rev. S. Holland, JWM chair

Historic UCC GMP Decision

"The UCC Board has voted to nominate Associate General Minister, the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson, for General Minister and President.

If elected by the General Synod this summer, Thompson would be the first woman Ββ€” and the first woman of African descent β€” to lead the denomination."

One Great Hour of Sharing

It's Time to Share

Dear Friends,

This year’s One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) theme, β€œIt’s Time to Share,” is compelling as it calls us to share with others, from our resources, and to remain steadfast in doing good.

It would be a privilege to join you in worship on OGHS Sunday (or any Sunday), so I have prepared a video sermon (and poem) to share with you and your congregation.

Lenten Blessings,

Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson Associate General Minister, Wider Church Ministries and Co-Executive, Global Ministries

Specifically nurses and counselors and even campers!!

Each week of the summer we must have a nurse onsite. If you are a nurse or if you know someone who is, please prayerfully consider joining our staff team for a week up at our amazing Outdoor Ministry site, Horton Center, on top of Pine Mountain.

It's a beautiful place to spend a week and help keep everyone safe and healthy.

NOTE: Nurses are paid and room and board is also included.

We are also always looking for good counselors (18+) to volunteer for a week and help with fun, faith formation, and friendship for our campers!

If you are interested in finding out if you'd be a good fit, please email Tim (see below).

Lastly, you could come up as a camper to our Spring or Fall Work Weekends, our Adult Women's retreat, or bring the whole family to our Family and Friends weekend over Labor day!

REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS

β€Š

Our trans siblings. God we pray that you might open hearts and minds to understand that in your deep wisdom and love you have created all people, each and every human being, in your image. God we pray that everyone, all of our sisters and brothers and non-binary siblings, can see and feel within themselves how deeply beloved they are, just as they are. God we pray that our churches might be places where this message of unapologetic witness to the breadth, depth and height of your love is proclaimed without hesitation or shame, for all to hear and to receive. God we pray that we might carry your love with us as we stand for justice and acceptance in the public sphere.

O God, in your tender mercy, Hear our prayers
