Happenings!!

Programming

This month, Art with a Heart students explored the surrealist style of Salvador Dalí and enjoyed creating their own eccentric elephant imagery. Also this month, the Art with a Heart programming team helped to curate art for a special event, where several Lillie May Carroll Jackson Public Charter School (LMCJ) students' work was exhibited alongside independent artists, including MICA MFA candidates. The students’ work showcased a diverse range of perspectives, from painted abstract compositions to pieces exploring themes of environmental racism in the United States.

Community Art and Service

September has been jam packed with service groups, new projects, and community engagements. The Community Art and Service team installed the Grace Medical Center mosaic pillar project and proudly attended the dedication at Grace Community Day. Art with a Heart volunteers and staff also continued to make progress on Mother Earth, the nine foot sculpture for the Greater Randallstown community.

Art of Leadership

Art of Leadership's Cohort 12 fall overnight retreat at NorthBay was filled with outdoor adventure, meaningful conversations, and opportunities to build new connections. One student exclaimed, “This is the camp experience I never had!” Students bonded over team-building games and shared their perspectives through thoughtful, healthy debates. On their final day, students wrote positive affirmation notes to one another, reflecting on the lessons they had learned from their peers. The overnight retreat set the tone for future sessions by emphasizing teamwork, encouragement, trust, and the importance of supporting one another.

HeARTworks/HeARTwares

In September, HeARTwares hosted another successful Craft Lab. Participants of all ages had fun creating one-of-a-kind, colorful keychains. Craft Lab participants also added to our "Autumn is for Letting Go" store decor by writing on leaves the things they are releasing this season.

The HeARTworks team is thrilled to be partnering with Itineris Baltimore, serving as the lead for their art studio, offering weekly classes and open studio time. Working together, participants created a colorful mixed-media canvas with "Itineris" as its centerpiece. Next, the artists will be creating seasonal products for display and sale in HeARTwares. Stay tuned!

And, lastly, a big congratulations to Christopher's Place, Class 112 on their graduation! These inspiring men explored different art mediums with Art with a Heart, while also working on a collaborative mosaic honoring their educational journey.
