105-Day Session Convenes in Olympia

The gavel fell in Olympia on Monday, January 14, as legislators arrived for a 105-Day Session. With expanded Democratic majorities in both houses and Governor Inslee testing presidential waters, expect progressive proposals such as taxes on capital gains, income and carbon to clear committee early.

One proposal that will likely receive bipartisan support is condominium liability reform. And there is interest on both sides of the Cascade Curtain for another statewide transportation funding package.

Stay tuned throughout Session for updates or contact Chris Johnson at cjohnson@bellevuechamber.org

2019 Legislative Breakfast Rings in the New Year

We rang in the New Year with a record 200 business leaders at the annual East King Chambers Coalition Legislative Breakfast. Local mayors joined state officials on the platform, as emcee Enrique Cerna questioned them on housing affordability, mobility solutions and workforce readiness. Legislators shared their solutions, while business leaders asked for their help in keeping our economic recovery intact in East King County.

Public Affairs Takes on
Transportation Funding

At our first Public Affairs meeting of the year on January 10, a full house took on the topic of transportation funding in Olympia. Business leaders and local government representatives exchanged competing ideas on how to best pay for badly needed improvements to I-405.
Throughout the 105-Day Session, we’ll turn Public Affairs into a legislative strategy round table. Learn more about a possible statewide transportation funding package in the Bellevue Blitz .

Chamber Public Affairs meets on the second Thursday of each month at Noon, in the Microsoft Business Center at the Chamber office.
