Local Young Entrepreneurs Obtain Funding
to Launch 12 Companies
An investor panel awarded a total of $2700 to 12 companies that are being started by the 2017 Bellevue Chamber Young Entrepreneurs Academy students at the April 19 Pitch Event.  Zitao Li, a 9th grader at Interlake High School and CEO of Roses and Rita, was selected to advance to the 9th Annual YEA! Saunders Scholars National Semi-Finals College Scholarship competition May 4-6 in Rochester, New York. Roses and Rita is a sole proprietorship that sells stylish apparel for teenagers online.

Commuter Alert: Overlake Park and Ride Lot to Close May 1
Sound Transit has announced the Overlake Park and Ride lot will close on May 1 due to East Link construction. A new 320 stall lot will be constructed on site and the Redmond Technology Center light rail station is expected to open in 2023.

Bellevue Plans to Buy More Renewable Energy 
The City of Bellevue plans to join Puget Sound Energy's "Green Direct" energy program. Through this initiative, local major commercial customers can purchase energy directly from renewable sources and reduce their carbon footprint. By 2019 the City plans to purchase half of its total usage from these sources.


It's #SmallBusinessWeek!
April 30 through May 6 is National Small Business Week. The US Small Business Administration and many businesses throughout the country host events and webinars to promote small business growth. A list of SBA webinars can be found here; topics range from an economic outlook to helpful tips for developing your online presence. The SBA is livestreaming a variety of events as well; viewers can join Q&As with SBA Administrator Linda McMahon as she meets with influential businesspeople across the country. The IRS is also promoting products and materials aimed at answering tax questions for small businesses and self-employed individuals.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Washington number five in its overall rankings. Check out their "highly interactive platform [that] enables users to explore thousands of important benchmarks and easily draw state-to-state comparisons."
