July has been busy at The Guild! The heat of the summer hasn't stopped us from participating in fun and educational activities like our first International Festival for the adult program and a petting zoo at the school. We're also kicking off fundraising efforts for the 26th annual Flutie 5K, happening in Natick this fall!

Read on for the latest news from The Guild:

The Flutie 5K returns!

The event will be held on Sunday, October 26 at a new location to accommodate the growing demand. We hope to see you at Natick High School on the day of the event!

Since The Guild is an official charity partner of the Flutie Foundation, 100% of the money raised goes back to support our programs.

The Guild celebrates diverse cultures, food, and music

Adult residents, staff, friends, and family came together to celebrate the traditions of more than 20 countries at The Guild's first International Festival. We were excited to share in each other's cultures from around the world.

35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act

The Guild is proud to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We celebrate this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in public spaces, employment, transportation, telecommunications, and government services. The law protects the rights of people with disabilities to have the same opportunities and access as everyone else.

Petting zoo visit at The Guild School

A few four-legged friends visited The Guild School this month! Students got to meet goats, sheep, an alpaca, donkey, cow, and a miniature horse. It was a fun way to learn about how different animals look, act, sound and feel.

See photos from their visit here.

Safety and belonging in the community

Although it comes with risks at times, everyone has the right to make their own choices. This reality is the balance of dignity of risk. Staff, families, and individuals work together to assess the risks of a given situation and decide on the best approach so that everyone can work towards their goals, do activities they enjoy, and engage with their community.
