The Guild is thankful for our community this November! The Guild School held its annual open house at the start of the month ahead of various Thanksgiving celebrations across programs. We had the opportunity to attend the Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong conference and an event recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the IDEA. Finally, we have a few updates to the Board of Trustees to share heading into the end of the year.

Thanksgiving events

We are grateful for dedicated staff and vibrant individuals at the heart of The Guild as we kick off this holiday season.

The adult program celebrated the holiday with their annual potluck feast. A special guest from GBH joined us for the event. Check out the coverage here.

Students at The Guild School celebrated with friendship, food, and fun. Photos of the Friendsgiving luncheon are on Facebook here.

Updates to the Board of Trustees

The Guild recently elected Peg Doherty of Sudbury to the Board of Trustees. Peg is the proud parent of an adult son with multiple disabilities who has been in The Guild's residential program since 2015. She has served on The Guild Human Rights Committee for seven years.

At the same time, The Board is saying farewell to Sue Connors and Mike McDonnell after nine years of service and Claudia de Piante Vicin after six years of service.

Guild School open house

The Guild School staff put on an outstanding open house for parents and guardians! The event was an opportunity to see classrooms, experience the new sensory rooms, and enjoy presentations from the dedicated teams that support students every day.

Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong conference

A group of adult residents from The Guild attended the Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong conference this past weekend. They took part in conversations and workshops around the conference theme of "IDEAS" representing: Inclusion, Decisions, Education, Accessibility, and Self-Advocacy.

50th anniversary of IDEA celebration with MAAPS

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was passed 50 years ago. This landmark legislation establishes access to free appropriate public education for all students.

The Guild celebrated this milestone and reflected on the progress we have yet to make at an anniversary event with the Massachusetts Association of Approved Private Schools (MAAPS).
