Sunday School Classes

Adults and Children,
s ee list below for classes!
Manna Bags Available

Thank you volunteers at God's Work Our Hands for putting together Manna Bags! We encourage everyone to pick up one or two bags as you leave Sunday, and as you see people in need, share God's blessings with them.

Private Prayer Every Sunday

Sometimes it is good to be able to share our prayer concerns with another Christian. That's what the after-service Prayer Room (#111, next to the nursery) is all about. If you want to share a prayer concern for yourself or someone you love, there will be a Stephen Minister waiting for you!

 Remember Christ said,
"For where two or three gather in my name,
      there am I with  them."

New Study - Real Faith for Real Life Sunday School Class

Real Faith For Real Life which meets in room 106/108 will begin the study "How Lutherans Interpret the Bible" on Sept. 15th. This is as a video/discussion series based on the presentations by Mark Allan Powell, a Lutheran pastor and Bible professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary.  Dr. Powell explains his perception of Lutheran thought in his video presentation and encourages discussion of the various topics he brings forth.  Class will begin at 8:45 to allow for more discussion.
Staff Changes

We are very sorry to announce that Patti Calvert, our Church Administrator will be leaving St. Luke effective October 10. Patti has been a faithful, caring and supportive member of our St. Luke family and we are very sad to see her go. We support Patti as she goes from working two jobs to one. In order for Patti to train her successor we will begin interviewing prospective candidates as soon as possible. John Behrends, the chair of Mutual Ministry will oversee the interview process. The job is currently posted on the web site Indeed.com. Job descriptions are available in the church office.

Part time church administrator, provide administrative support to pastor, staff and lay leaders; communications with congregation; accounting support functions including contributions, payroll and general ledger.

St Luke Mutual Ministry Team: John Behrends, Chair, Debi Erickson, Bev McGhee, Katherine Fellenstein, Lief Karnuth, Pastor Cliff Bahlinger. Please contact one of these Mutual Ministry members if you have suggestions or possible candidates for this  important position.
Multi-Media Help Needed

Our Multi-Media Team needs a few more volunteers to help create the slides used on Sunday mornings during worship.  It's pretty simple: take the script that's provided, make up slides, save the file!  Sometimes you'll create, other times you'll proof what someone else created.  The more people we have on the team, the fewer times per month you'll be asked to do one of the jobs.
Contact Patti in the office (patti@stlukememphis.org) if you are interested.
Pecan Fundraiser

As a fundraiser for Family Promise we will once again be selling fresh 1 pound bags of pecans. The prices are remaining the same! Plain will be $13.00. Roasted Salted, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and Praline will be priced at $14.00. These are the freshest, best tasting peans that you will ever have. Great for baking, gifts and serving at parties. The delivery date will be prior to Thanksgiving.

We will be pre-selling in the Narthex starting September 29 through October 27th. Orders will need to be turned in by Monday, October 28th. Please make checks out to Family Promise.
Offering Counter Needed

Are you good at counting money?  We need a few more offering counters to work on Monday mornings.  The more we have, the fewer times you'll need to volunteer.

Contact Patti in the office (patti@stlukememphis.org) if you are interested.
Thursday Women's Bible Study

The Thursday Women's Bible Study group will start back up September 12th studying the book, The Twelve Disciples by Douglas Connelly. Please join us at 1:30 in the Narthex for the study of God's Word and great fellowship.
Ladies' Tuesday Morning Bible Study

Discover the God Who Cherishes You
Jennifer Rothschild has a story for you. It's about an unlikely couple, an unlikely courtship, and an affair. But the marriage didn't end, instead, a love story began. It is Hosea and Gomer's love story and it is your love story.

When you're looking for identity, God calls you His own.
When you feel enslaved, God frees you.
When you wander away, God brings you home.
No matter where you are, God sees who you are and loves you faithfully. His unfailing love changes everything.

Join us as we study Jennifer Rothschild's  7 session study of Hosea: Unfailing Love Changes Everything, on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 - 11:30.
The study began August 13, 2019, but it's not too late to join!

"Tidbits" of the Week - Sept. 15
Friendship Sunday was a hit! It was great to see new faces at church and the service was wonderful - filled with the Holy Spirit, with the joy of up-lifting music - thank you, Becky & Marcin Arendt, the Cherub Choir ("Lord I lift Your Name on High"), the Praise Choir, and the Adult Choir. And, to top it off, fabulous food, thanks to our awesome Fellowship Committee. Whew! Great day!!!

Welcome to our newest precious saint, Oliver John McGhee, son of Bev and Jacob. We're so glad the wait is over and you're here!

Be sure to sign up for our Habitat for Humanity build! It starts Sept 28 and continues Oct 19 from 7:30-1:00. Call the church for location and more information.

Would you like to get an inside peek at what goes on at the downtown Church Health Center? We're going on Sept 24 th, leaving the church at 10am. We'll carpool and enjoy a lunch at a Crosstown restaurant.

Sign up for the tailgate party that's taking place on Sept 28 th. Call Burk Renner for details.

Good Stewards are needed for counting on Monday mornings and for the multi-media team. Call the church to sign up and thank you!

Yard Sale, Yard Sale!!! Clean out those closets and donate to the youth yard sale that will take place on Sept 21 st. Then come find treasures to replace them!

Cliff Notes: Luke 15:1-10. Do you think of Jesus as a troublemaker?! Well, He didn't just rub noses with the righteous - He actually sought out sinners and lost souls and got in trouble sometimes, with those who lived by the Law only. This is our anointed Son, the only Son of God! We don't usually think of Him in this context, but He celebrates those who are lost and then are found, like a shepherd's lost sheep. While most would tend to the flock of 99, Jesus looks for the 1 that wandered away and, aren't we lucky that He does? The lost sheep is more important than the righteous, who have already found their way. Jesus' reckless behavior had Him eating and drinking with sinners and we can do the same. So - the next time you ask, "Where's Bruce," look under the candy counter at the gas station and you'll find this wee treasure and be glad. He's valuable, too. Amen!
Facilities Maintenance Log
We have a log book available in the office for you to note any maintenance needs you come across in the church!

In Mac's mailbox (our Sexton) is a binder called
"Facilities Maintenance Log".  Inside you can write what the issue is, where it is, who reported it and the date.  Mac will check to see if there are needs he should attend to, and note when they are completed.

Thanks for helping keep St. Luke "spiffy"!
