Book Launch and Reception

Mary Henderson: Commons

Saturday, October 21, 5-7pm

Click here to reserve your signed edition of Mary Henderson, Commons. A limited number of artist books are now available for preorder, with pick up available on or after the book launch event on October 21, 2023.

This Fall, as the culmination of her CFEVA Visual Artist Fellowship, artist Mary Henderson has transformed CFEVA's gallery into a satellite studio! We invite you to come and take a peek at Mary’s remarkable paintings, and experience her creative process. In addition, Mary will feature her new project, Commons.

Commons features miniature paintings, scaled to the size of a hand, that are set in West Philadelphia’s iconic Clark Park, steps away from the artist's home. Inspired in part by the Parisian park and garden-party paintings of French Impressionist painting, the work imagines this public square as a kind of everyday utopia.

CFEVA works to advance and incubate greater Philadelphia-based artists at work and to gather our city’s art lovers together through local exhibitions and events. We have been an integral driver of artist-powered programming in this special place, where creative endeavor blossoms, where socially-engaged citizens thrive, and where diverse audiences interact consistently with art.
