Free Rapid Covid Testing on Saturday
.....Healthy Ways, Brighter Days will host a free Rapid Covid testing site on Saturday, February 6 at the Fondren Post Office Parking Lot.
.....The testing site will open at 11 a.m. with testing ending at 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
.....Test results will be available in 25-30 minutes at the testing site.
.....While waiting, we will have live music and seating near Fondren Guitars with refreshments sponsored by Clark Beverage Group.

.....Mom Andrea Prado Contreras and three young adult children, Mayra, Gabriel and Daniel, are tennis players. Dad was a soccer player. Originally from Mexico, they came to Mississippi so Mayra, Gabriel and Daniel could play tennis at Belhaven College. And, they stayed!
.....As new owners, effective last week, the Prado Contreras family plans some upgrades to the center but are well aware of the center's rich history. Long-time friends of the Mike Peters family, they are quick to express their love for Fondren and their belief that it has a great future. And, they all live in the area so they note they have a vested interest in being part of Fondren's bright future.
JPD to demo 2 street cameras here
.....As part of JPD's effort to improve public safety in Fondren,Chief James Davis has authorized the installation of two demonstration street cameras that will transmit video directly into the Real Time Crime Center.
.....The cameras will be installed this week and will stay active for 30 days.
.....Should the cameras prove an asset, the Business Improvement District will consider the purchase and permanent installation on the cameras.
.....The location of the two cameras will be at the intersection of Duling and Old Canton Road and the intersection of North State Street and Fondren Place.
Virtual Neighborhood Watch Signs
.....Residents who have requested a free Virtual Neighborhood Watch Yard Sign will be notified this week where they can pick up their signs. After today, signs will be available for $10. Watch for details in the next newsletter on how to purchase a sign.
.....Anyone can upload a video from their home security camera directly to JPD's Precinct 4 with this link: Send video to JPD.
.....A sign is not required for uploading video. The sign is just a deterrent to those who may be trespassing, informing them that their images may be sent to Precinct 4 and used as evidence.
ADA Committee meets Tuesday
.....Julie Markle, AIA, WBA Architecture, will review plans for The Strip on North State Street, the redevelopment project which includes The Capri Theatre, at the Tuesday ZOOM meeting of the Fondren ADA Committee. The Committee is charged with making sure the Fondren community is welcoming to people of all abilities.
.....Members of the committee are: Mick Hintz, Scott Crawford, Joyce White, Marilyn Graves, Cecilia Reese Bullock, Robert Lee, City of Jackson, Herbert Humphrey, City of Jackson and Jim Rigby, Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Art Show at Collage Studio Feb. 11
.....Collage Studio will feature the work of Nicole Giles Lamar, along with Sidney Creekmore Crews and Carol Cox Heidleberg on Thursday , February 11, 4-7 p.m. Collage Studio is located in Duling School and will also be using Duling Hall to allow for social distancing.

Fondren Florific! Meeting on Feb 8
.....FRF will host an informal meeting of interested neighbors to plan three small, low maintenance, all-season “showcase” beds at strategic spots in Fondren, and one or more practical demo plantings as templates for enhancing the failing State Street curb plantings.
.....Horticulturist and Fondren resident Felder Rushing will make a brief presentation on suitable shrubs, ground covers, and seasonal perennials for these horticulturally-challenging areas.
.....The meeting will be Monday, Feb 8, 6 p.m. at The Cedars, 4145 Old Canton Road. Social distancing will be observed. Everyone is welcome.
