CHAMBER UPDATES | NOVEMBER 30, 2021
Chamber Members,

I had once heard that if you stand outside in the cold on New Year's Day (or New Year's eve) and snap your fingers loudly, AND that if you do it again the following year, the memory of that happening a year ago will seem like a "snap" of the fingers. I haven't tried it, but maybe I will this year. Can it be that 2021 is nearly at an end already? We still have a month to go but I'm sure that December will be a busy month given all the holiday parties, family gatherings, with many taking time off between Christmas and New Year's. I'm sure a "bowl game" of some sort will take place and a turkey or two will be eaten. Hopefully my Chicago Bears will have taken care of the Lions too. As a none-so-subtle reminder, please remember to register for our Holiday spectacular with information below. 🙂

By the time you read this, I will be in Hemet, California working with the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Chamber of Commerce. What was that? Did you hear that right? Well...yes and no. You see the context for which you read a sentence like the last one dictates the surprise on your face! First of all, to put your mind at ease, I'm not leaving Colerain anytime in the near future. However, what is happening is a job shadow opportunity where I will get to work with my counter-part in suburban Los Angeles for a week (through Dec. 3rd), and then in February (yes when it's still cold) she will be coming to Cincinnati to learn more about our chamber success here in Colerain. I will be working to help them and vis versa.

My hope is to learn more about their diversity and inclusion efforts so that we can do better in this area. I anticipate working with their other local chambers of commerce to see how they "play nicely together" and learn from their various member programs. The HSJV chamber is also about 2 1/2 times our size and therefore it will give me a chance to vision-cast where we might be in the coming years as our membership increases across NW Ohio. Finally, as with all things that make us better individuals and communities, keeping an open mind to new ideas especially from a leader in a different part of the country, is a wonderful opportunity to grow professionally.

Finally, I'm proud to say that we were awarded the small chamber of the year award by our peers at the CCEO (Chamber of Commerce Executives of Ohio) conference in Columbus a couple of weeks ago. Citing our efforts with the Team Up to Green Up initiative, programing and growth initiatives during COVID, and partnerships that have improved the community through a cause-based approach seem to have set us on the cutting edge of chambers across Ohio.  Very few can say that they've had the growth that we've experienced, and my hope is that you as members have enjoyed the journey.

We have a long way to go having recently passed our 7th anniversary as a chamber. However, it is not a destination we are looking at reaching, but rather a wild, prosperous and fun-filled trip along the way. As always, if you know someone who would benefit from joining this organization, be sure to tell them and/or tell me. In the meantime, enjoy the holiday season and we'll hope to see you at an event soon.

Merry Christmas!

Dave

HERE WE GROW AGAIN!

WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBER!

The Colerain Chamber of Commerce membership is quite diverse bringing together local businesses, non-profit organizations, schools, and governmental bodies. Please share this with your team and others interested in looking for involvement in the community.

Give Back Cincinnati began in December 2000 with a small group of friends that wanted to give back to their community. Since their first event, that small group of friends has grown to over 3,000 members who annually donate thousands of volunteer hours to Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Give Back Cincinnati continues to provide young professionals with an outlet where they can have fun, meet people and give back to their community all at the same time.

Nate's Toy Box Continues to
Collect Toys for Children

Nate’s Toy Box was first organized in 2006 in memory of Nate Schroeder who was killed in an automobile accident October 16, 2005. This is the sixteenth year we are collecting toys in Nate’s memory and the toys will be distributed locally to children of families in the Northwest Local School District area identified by the district and SON Ministries food pantry as those with the most need.

Nate’s Toy Box is supported by SON Ministries, Side by Side Ministries, Clippard Family YMCA, many churches and businesses in the area and Northwest Local School District as well as hundreds of individuals. In 2020, 286 families and 785 children were served.

After having to change collection in 2020, they are once again collecting toys and items for children. These items can be brought to any toy drop-off location around the community by Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Items being collected this year are:

        1) New toys (up to $35 and unwrapped) (no stuffed animals, please)
           2) Family Board Games
           3) Card Games and Puzzles
           4) Books (new or gently used for infants through teenagers)
           5) $15 Gift Cards to local restaurants (McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A, Subway, etc.)
           6) Cash donations (for purchase of above items)

Thank you for helping to make Christmas special for so many local families.
