Ocean State Schutzhund Club at Hilltop Farm
One of the educational partnerships that FOFAH has developed is with the Ocean State Schutzhund Club. The club is a group of serious dog trainers, preparing dog and owner for competitions.
OSSC members and their dogs have been practicing for competitions at Hilltop since the Spring.
The “BH” is the entry level designation for entry into competition. The designation includes a test for temperament, lack of distractibility and all-round obedience. All dogs must earn a "BH" designation, and handlers must pass a written test, before being eligible to try for more advanced titles. In the BH category, the dog demonstrates different heeling exercises and must pass a temperament test.
All the OSSC dogs you might have seen working in the field at Hilltop have earned their BH’s prior to this year. All dogs are working to progress to the next level of control. The exercises for each level build on the ones that came before. Many of these dogs have won local and regional titles. You can find detailed information about the three phases in the Wikipedia article Schutzhund.
From the OSSC Board,
“One of the many wonderful things about Hilltop Farm is the people who share it. Thank you to all the people who drive, bike, run, walk or scooter by while we work. You’re providing exactly the kinds of distraction that our dogs need to learn to ignore. Some of you even stop, watch and ask questions. We love that. “
FOFAH Loves the partnership, too.
