Today's Back to School Report Card: December 7, 2020
Dear Serra Parents and Guardians,

Today we began the first day for in-person teaching and learning in the hybrid model for the lower division students. There was great representation from the freshmen class who were on campus today for the first time to meet their teachers and classmates in person. The sophomores were quick to re-familiarize themselves with the procedures at Serra.

In an effort to share with you the progress we are making with teaching and learning in the hybrid, we decided to start a report card. At the end of the first day we are excited to give a report card summary of the day to identify the different areas of success in our program and identify the areas to pay attention to moving forward. The Pandemic Recovery Framework from the county and the detailed plans of the team continue to drive our decision making.

Overall, we scored an 'A' on the first day of lower division. The boys were on time and teachers were prepared as we went through the entrance protocols. We continue to see the return on investment in facility improvements, technology and professional development allowed us to facilitate sophisticated teaching in a hybrid environment.

The boys had time to socially distance and be outside for lunch. They are getting used to being  at Serra and we couldn't be happier to have your sons here. Tomorrow will be even better and great things are to come.

Tomorrow we start B Day with the Blue Group. Remember to allow extra time for drop off and entrance points to the school. Remind the boys to dress in layers as the temperatures improve throughout the day. Also, make sure all electronic devices are powered fully and ready for zooming.

As you may be aware, San Mateo moved to the most restrictive Purple Tier as a result of increased transmission of COVID-19 in the community.  Per the county of San Mateo, schools that have already begun the "Return to In-Person Learning Plan" may continue without interruptionOur ability to continue to have in person instruction will be dependent on the rigorous cooperation of all members of the community to adhere to the health protocols for daily symptom assessment with the Ruvna questionnaire, following self-quarantining requirements if you come in contact with some who tests positive for covid and quarantining if you participate in high risk activity outside your household.

On behalf of the entire team, we are so excited to have your sons back at school. We look forward to working together to make our Serra community a place where the brotherhood is strong through respect, integrity, inclusion and respect. It is who we are as Padres.
