“Tourism doesn't just happen...”

The past two days, Chris Clapper and myself have been immersed in break-out sessions, keynote speakers and amazing food at the WIGCOT Tourism Conference: The Art of Tourism. This year's tourism conference focused heavily on the added value and significance the arts play in the tourism arena. We see that with vibrant attractions like The Fireside Theatre and the Barn Quilts and Back Road Farms Tour both which were nominated at this year's tourism conference for the tremendous work and impact they have on Walworth County Tourism and the surrounding areas.

We heard heartfelt testimony from Anne Sayers, WI Secretary of Tourism, about all that Wisconsin has accomplished in the past year. And the reminder that tourism "doesn't just happen". It takes countless teams and organizations who help extend the invitation to our guests from near and far to come experience all that Wisconsin has to offer.

Invitations that lead to WI earning Golf Digest's No.1 place to golf in 2023, landing the cooking competition series, Top Chef Wisconsin (which airs in 7 days on Bravo), hosting the 2024 RNC in Milwaukee, to being the state that will host the 2025 NFL Draft up in our beloved Green Bay.

Tourism isn't a piece of cake, it's a constant effort to highlight and magnify what our state, counties and communities have waiting for those wishing to travel and see the sights and experience those "moments of joy" that Secretary Sayers is so passionate about. Here in Elkhorn we look forward to continuing the work we do to highlight the area's attractions, the beautiful lakes and trails and of course the amazing businesses that help create the heart of the community where we live, work and play.
