Treaty Education for All

Treaty Education has been a staple in Manitoba schools for over a decade. The Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba has provided professional learning supports and teaching materials to schools across all jurisdictions and geographic regions since 2010.

Our overarching goal continues: to ensure that all teachers, school staff, and students receive Treaty Education.

At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba and Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning entered into a funding agreement whereby the TRCM would continue to deliver Treaty Education across Manitoba schools. Since 2009-2010, 86% of schools across the province have participated in Treaty Education training.

At the end of June 2023, Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning announced its policy Treaty Education for All: Manitoba's Plan for K to 12 Treaty Education. One of the key components of the province-wide strategy will be that all teachers are required to complete a two-day Treaty Education workshop by December 31, 2025. All other school staff are required to attend the first day of Treaty Education training.

Catalyst Teachers

Part of the 'Treaty Education for All' strategy is a network of divisional Catalyst Teachers. Nominated by their school divisions/districts, these educators took specialized Treaty Education training in June 2023. Their role is to introduce, promote, facilitate, and deliver local Treaty Education in their respective school division/district. Catalyst Teachers provide training and aid in-class teachers, support staff, and school administrators in the delivery of Treaty Education.
