Stories from our Past
As we approach the centennial celebration of our building, the Centennial Committee is sharing stories from this past century at Trinity to remind us of our legacy and to inspire us as we move into our next hundred years.
You’ve probably noticed the schoolchildren occupying the building adjacent to Trinity to the east! They attend the Growing Kidz Day Care Center; Growing Kidz originated on the campus of First Christian Church and moved to Trinity's campus when that parish closed down. Prior to Growing Kidz, Trinity operated its own Day School in the same building for more than 30 years, closing its doors in 2009. TDS served families with children ages up to five years old.
Before it became a school, that building was utilized as a clothing closet for the needy, and originally was the Perry Clinic. Note the sculptures on the northern exterior wall from that time, pictured above.
Around 1990, powerful lights were installed on top of that building, trained at the stained glass windows above our altar, to create a dramatic effect when the church held services after dark. This special lighting was originally unveiled on Christmas Eve as the interior church lights were lowered for the singing of Silent Night. When the lights were activated, lighting our beautiful stained glass from outside, the congregation gasped audibly!
