FORMER TACOMA MAYOR RUNNING FOR CONGRESS
Former Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland announced her candidacy last Thursday to succeed fellow Democrat Denny Heck in the 10th congressional district.

“I want to run for this seat because I believe there are big issues that keep recurring that need to be addressed,” Strickland told The News Tribune. “I would say housing affordability, the high cost of health care, dealing with climate change and then really transportation.”

MISSING LINK TO TACOMA'S PORT
Construction officially began in October to complete SR 167 — the 6-mile segment connecting Puyallup to the port. While that work might not be as wow-inducing as, say, a giant crane hoisting massive containers, its lift is no less significant to the business of the port, a major artery in the regional, state, and national economies.
