For those who cannot attend the picnic,

a recorded sermon and liturgy from the sanctuary will be sent out on Sunday.

ARE YOU READY TO FLIP YOUR LID(S)?

Join the Deacons and the Women’s Bible Study in a drive to collect 200 to 250 lbs. of lids and medicine bottles. These items will be recycled into a park bench for the church playground area. We are working in conjunction with the ABC Partnership Project of Green Tree Plastics LLC to encourage the recycling of specified plastics that are typically not accepted in our residential recycling programs.

We will post the criteria for lids and bottles in the church and on our website. Receptacles will be placed at the entrances to the church. Please make sure items contain no metal or cardboard, and are well cleaned.

We will kick off the project at the church picnic on September 14.  Look for a display with more details.

Ask any deacon for additional information.

Pittsburgh Presbytery invites our members to join us in a leadership training event at Northmont United Presbyterian Church. Pastors, Elders, Deacons, church employees, and members will have the opportunity to attend two sessions with several options each. Dinner will be provided at a cost of $10 per person. We look forward to seeing you there!

RESONANCE WORKS’ ACCLAIMED RESON8 VOCAL OCTET AT NORTHMONT!

Friday, Sept. 19, 8pm

Reson8 presents the live premiere of Hero Songs, a powerful new song cycle by Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi that explores the meaning of heroism and service—past, present, and future. Interwoven throughout the program are works by Joel Thompson, Rosephanye Powell, Damian Geter, Reena Esmail, Melissa Dunphy, and others, each selected to deepen and expand the central themes. Together, these pieces create a moving musical journey that reflects the many dimensions of heroism in today’s world.

We’re especially excited that our friend Rob Frankenberry will be featured as one of the tenors in the Reson8 octet. With singers of Rob’s caliber throughout the ensemble, this promises to be an unforgettable evening of music.

Clef Notes

Music Director, Stephen Schall

stephen@northmontchurch.org

Our local ancestors often gathered for worship in barns until they had the time and resources to build proper church buildings. Whenever we hold our annual picnic service, I’m reminded of that heritage. It gives us a chance to sing unaccompanied hymns, appreciating both the beauty of creation and the power of voices joined together in praise. Even before that, our Calvinist forebears worshiped this way every week — singing unaccompanied metrical Psalms.

As we experienced last summer, the Lodge provides a wonderful setting for this kind of service. The Chancel Choir will lead us in the hymns and responses, and they will also offer a moving arrangement of the beloved song Down to the River to Pray.

We look forward to sharing this joyful worship with you!

If you’ve ever considered singing with us, now is a wonderful time. We’re always open to new members. If you can read music, have a good voice and a positive spirit, and are seeking a more active worship experience, let’s talk! You can reach me at stephenrschall@msn.com

AMOS RETURNS!

& INTRODUCING: AMOS KIDS!

Beginning September 24, our inter-generational program returns with one important addition for some of our younger participants.

AMOS will keep the same format from 6-7:30 (dinner, activities and games for all).

But NOW, from 5:30-6pm we will have a special AMOS KIDS time for anyone “VBS age” to come and have their own activities and stories just for them. Afterwards, those participating will stay for dinner and can still get home at an hour that works best for younger kids.

PARKING LOT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN COMPLETE!!!

GREAT JOB NORTHMONT!! You’ll recall that the target set by session in early March for the Parking Lot Funding Drive was to raise $95,000 by the end of August, a truly formidable goal. That date was reached last week and the result is remarkable! While we didn’t make the stated goal, the cost of repaving turned out to be less than expected, so the whopping $89,114.11 raised was a little bit more than was needed!

We are particularly grateful to the anonymous donor, whose generous and inspired matching gift offer of $10K provided the significant added incentive at just the right time needed for us to complete our drive in the black. We profusely thank that donor, and also every one of you who contributed to this remarkable achievement!

It’s hard to express how very grateful we are for your amazing collective generosity. As we close out this funding drive, I speak for the session, the Stewardship & Finance Committee, the Facilities Management Committee, the Parking Lot Project Manager (Scott Davis), and the Parking Lot Fundraising Team (myself and Jack Swick) in thanking you all for the wonderful and faithful support you’ve shown for this campaign. Your stewardship of Northmont’s property has helped ensure that it will continue to be here, in good condition, for the next generation of Northmont members. May God bless you and His church and our beautiful, repaved parking lot!!

Thank You!

Ted Mills, Parking Lot Funding Drive Manager
