TWO VCCS Rocket Teams Qualify for National TARC Launch!
Both Teams Get Ready to Hit the Road!

ROCKET TEAM I - KINGS OF THE SKY
 THE PRATT XXVII ROCKET
TEAM I IS COMPRISED OF ALL SENIORS.

F or the sixth straight year, Victory Christian Center School has qualified to represent the Charlotte region in the aerospace and defense industry's premier STEM competition for student rocketry.

Last week, two VCCS rocket teams won slots to compete in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), the world's largest student rocket contest next month near Washington, D.C. The VCCS students competed against 810 teams (over 5,000 students) from around the U.S. to win two of the 100 slots. Our students scored in the top 10 percent, which earned them invitations to the Rockets on Capitol Hill Reception where they'll rub elbows with Congressional leaders and aerospace officials.

 THE TRUMP ROCKET
Motto: "We make rocketry great!"
L-R (Front): Olivia Edmonds_ Loi Pham,_Ra'Aija Davis_Te'la Faulkner
(Back): Kory Oliver_DeAsja Ingram_Francis Colbert_Jordan Spencer

Sp onsored by the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) and the National Association of Rocketry (NAR), TARC is a key component of the aerospace and defense industry's strategy to build a stronger U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Only the lowest 100 scores qualified. The rockets had to soar to an altitude of 775 feet with a flight duration of 41 to 43 seconds and return without breaking a raw egg (the payload).

Miss Kimberly Williams, VCCS Science Chair and Rocketry Advisor, was quite pleased by her teams' scores and the way they designed their rockets. S tudents named our rockets The Pratt XXVII after our founding Principal Michael Pratt, and The Trump, after President Donald Trump.

"The design this year is really complicated," said Williams, who is also one of the region's few Level 2 National Association of Rocketry (NAR)-certified instructors. Because requirements were much more complex than previous years, she added, "We completed it with a lot of prayer.  Requirements this year were more difficult." Also, she said for the first time, "Students were required to construct two different body tubings for the rockets, and the bottom had to be smaller than the top. The children had to build transitions to connect the top to the bottom, which they designed themselves.
DeAsja Ingram and Ra'Aija Davis refine a component of their rocket as Miss Williams and Aiyanna Rogers assist in the background.

"That was probably the most exciting part for the children," Williams explained. But whenever students failed to cut the model precisely, they had to scrap it and start over.  The student rocketeers have been trained to execute without adult supervision since all communication between instructors and students is prohibited at the competition. As students prepare to launch from the field at TARC, Miss Williams and her faculty assistants will only be permitted to cheer at a distance from the stands.

The top placing teams at TARC will split more than $100,000 in cash and scholarships, and the overall winning team will travel to Europe to compete in the International Rocketry Challenge in Paris.

Congratulations to Miss Williams & the Rocket Teams!
May the Lord continue to order your steps!

A Word from
VCCS President
  Pastor Robyn Gool

Please Don't Miss Heaven!

We have to make sure we're not earthbound, that nothing in this earth has us tied down. We're ambassadors of heaven, and we're representing a real physical place. We have to live with a purpose and focus. Colossians 3:1 says if you are risen with Christ, seek those things that are above.

Don't get so caught up in this world and its issues that you forget about heaven. Your purpose on earth is to live like you're going to heaven. We're sojourners passing through here. God says heaven is where his throne is and earth, His footstool. God wants us in heaven. Change your perspective. Stop being earthbound and earth thinking as if there is no heaven. If you start thinking about what you were and what you enjoyed in the world, the devil will see to it you go back there.

God says we can know what heaven is like by looking at the visible things. So there are no real atheists or agnostics. Let things get bad enough, they'll say, "Oh, God!" Heaven is such a beautiful place. There are trees, rivers, animals, books, rainbows, crowns, angels, etc. in heaven. Things we have on earth are in heaven. Heaven is inhabited by people, and we'll know each other in heaven. Is there anything in your life keeping you from being prepared for heaven? Heaven is for prepared people. Heaven will be filled with only good people. No more Satan, wickedness, sickness, pain, sorrow, etc. Why would you want to go to hell and spend eternity with wicked people? In hell you'll spend eternity with all the hypocrites, murderers, etc.

I don't want to live like there's no heaven. If you go to hell, you're going to burn forever.  If you go to heaven, you'll live in God's peace and glory forever. God doesn't want us to get born again, and everything be about us. We're supposed to tap into His will, His plan, His purpose and represent Him.

Jesus referred to heaven over 100 times. Notice a personal statement Jesus made to people about heaven.   "And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them ( Hebrews  11:15-16 )."

How can we know what Heaven is like?

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse (Romans  1:18-20)."

Jesus said, "B ut lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also ( Matthew  6:20-21 )."

Nothing on earth should be that important to you that you miss heaven. I want to see the Lord. God wants to preserve us for heaven (2 Timothy 4:18). That's what God's doing in your life, trying to preserve you. We have to stop resisting the work of the Holy Spirit. God's got some stuff waiting for you in heaven. I plan on getting mine. Please don't miss heaven!

THREE SENIORS LEND A HELPING HAND
at CHURCH IN THE CITY WOMEN'S SHELTER

L-R: Preston Gaines, Tim Baten & Makarii Randolph

Seniors Preston Gaines, Tim Baten and Makarii Randolph are doing their part  to serve an inner city Charlotte community. On Sunday, they helped serve food to 25 residents at  Church in the City Women's Shelter.

"It made me appreciative  to give back to the community, " said Makarii  Randolph. " It also made me wonder about their  situations, particularly the older women, because things happen in  everybody's life."

Ms. Treva Farmer, VCCS Guidance Counselor and Outreach Coordinator, accompanied the young men on this outreach. She said the purpose of KINGS SOAR is to teach our students to be followers of  God and to be like Him. "Jesus' compassion led him to serve and to ultimately  give His life for us," she said. "Thank God for the hearts of our students!"
STUDENTS INSPIRED & REFRESHED BY ACTIVITIES & CORPORATE MENTORS AT MICROSOFT

Five VCCS students participated recently in the annual Blacks at Microsoft Minority Student Day held at the company's Charlotte headquarters.

Students received information about the tools, resources and career opportunities that are available to them in information technology. Even more important, the event aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals by connecting them to mentors, and sparking an early interest in pursuing technology careers at Microsoft.

Throughout the day, Microsoft employees guided students through hands-on technology labs on tools ranging from OneNote to Micro:bit, as well as information sessions on everything from personal brand-building to coding. Employees also talked with students about the wide variety of career opportunities available to them in technology.

Elementary Students Are Taking the Terra Nova Exam

ATTENTION ELEMENTARY PARENTS:

Elementary students are in the midst of standardized Terra Nova testing, which runs through Thursday, April 13.

Victory Christian Center School's policy is that all students be tested (K5-12th grades).  Therefore, it is vitally important that every student be present every day the test is administered.

Each student must make an acceptable score on the Terra Nova test in order to be promoted/graduated to the next level.  Please help students be prepared to do their best by encouraging them to:
  • get adequate rest
  • eat a moderate breakfast before arriving to school
  • bring at least two No. 2 pencils to class every day, and
  • have their own calculator for testing (4th & 5th grades only)

Parents will receive the test results with any academic recommendations within two months after testing.

Thank you for helping to ensure your child's success on the test.

Develop Reading Skills at UNCC Summer Reading Program

Each summer, UNCC offers a summer reading program that can help develop your child's reading skills. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity to prepare your child for next year.

Summer Programs Help Students Advance!

Dear Parents:

As a part of our mission at Victory to produce well-rounded students who will impact their worlds for Christ, we endeavor to make a variety of enrichment programs available to them. We believe the benefits your children will derive from these programs will far outweigh any cost that may be associated with them, so we  encourage you to consider enrolling them. Please visit each website for full information on these programs, and note upcoming application deadlines.

1. Business Education for Talented Students - (BETS)
The BETS Program is a 10-day residential program at the University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business. The program is designed to introduce high school students from diverse backgrounds to the various fields of business (Accounting, Economics, Management, Finance, Human Resources Management, Public Administration and Marketing). The program is designed to help students explore the dynamic world of business and business careers.

2 . Clemson Career Workshop
The Clemson Career Workshop is a summer program designed to support readiness of high-achieving students from diverse populations to enter college. The Clemson Career Workshop enables rising high school seniors an opportunity to get an inside look into Clemson University while learning tips and tools needed to prepare for college and beyond. Furthermore, the Clemson Career Workshop provides students exposure to areas in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, arts and humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.

3.  Jesse Helms Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge
The goal of FELC is to educate students about entrepreneurship, the differences between capitalism and socialism, free market economics, personal responsibility, principled leadership and corporate/personal philanthropy. Activities and lessons are designed for students to create meaningful practical application.

4. Broyhill Leadership Conference
The Broyhill Leadership Conference is a unique, life-changing experience for delegates who attend each year.  During the conference, high school students (rising 10th - 12th graders and current year high school graduates) are challenged to learn, develop, and practice leadership skills that they will take with them and use for the rest of their lives. P. S. I have personal experience with this program. I worked as one of their counselors for several summers (Ms. Farmer). Great organization!

If you find you are not eligible to participate in any of these programs this year, be sure to take a look next year as your eligibility changes!
