Ward Memorial Theater is among the most notable buildings on the Milwaukee Soldiers Home grounds. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most threatened. The Milwaukee Preservation Alliance (MPA) continues to advocate for a reuse for the Theater as well as the Chapel and the Governor's Mansion, which are also vacant and threatened. MPA LAUNCHES FUNDRAISING EFFORT FOR CHAPEL, THEATER, GOVERNOR'S MANSION
In October 2020, MPA announced that it will be taking an important step toward the rehabilitation and reuse of the Chapel, Theater and Governor's Mansion by engaging a Historic Preservation Consultant to develop economically feasible recommendations for the adaptive reuse of these buildings. This work is made possible by a matching grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and will build on the past work of the VA.
