GET A SNEAK PEEK INSIDE THE CHAPEL
Recently, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the start of rehabilitation work on Old Main - a major victory for the Save the Soldiers Home effort that will return six buildings to the service of veterans. The Milwaukee Preservation Alliance (MPA) continues to advocate for a reuse for the Chapel, Ward Theater and the Governor's Mansion which are currently vacant and threatened. The video above provides a sneak peek into the Chapel and highlights our work to save this important community asset.
NATIONAL TRUST GRANT PROVIDES ENCOURAGING STEP FORWARD
MPA continues to make progress in the effort to save the Chapel, Theater and Governor’s Mansion. In the coming weeks, we’ll take another important step by engaging a Historic Preservation Consultant to develop economically feasible recommendations for the adaptive reuse of the buildings.

This important work is made possible by a matching grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and will build on the past work of the VA. In Spring 2018, the VA sought potential developers for these buildings, but no feasible responses were submitted. In 2019, the VA engaged a consultant to begin the process of evaluating the buildings to consider potential reuses. MPA's new Historic Preservation Consultant will build on this work by evaluating additional opportunities for reuse, including those identified by the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

We look forward to identifying this partner and finding a feasible way to restore these remarkable buildings to the service of veterans.
