Mysterious Galaxy in Transition
Important News for Both Locations

In more than two decades of independent bookselling since we opened our first store in 1993, Mysterious Galaxy has weathered many changes, including changes in our industry, the economy, and in our physical locations. We have worked to serve our community in varied ways beyond our storefront business: a new store in Redondo Beach, an increase in our outside events business, pop-up stores, and the creation of unique events that bring readers and authors together. The story continues with some new opportunities for Mysterious Galaxy in both locations.

Our San Diego business continues to grow and prosper. We have not only increased our bricks and mortar business, but we also  find ourselves increasingly involved in community events outside the store. In fact, we have outgrown our physical location and we are in conversation with a new landlord for a new, larger space in a location ... not so very far away. This new space will enable us to have larger events in the store, and accommodate our need for a warehouse to support our many outside events, including Comic-Con International, Men of Mystery, Bouchercon, and author events in support of numerous Southern California libraries and organizations, to name only a few.

In Redondo Beach, we will be expanding our events business to include more community-focused events in partnership with local businesses, conferences, authors, and publishers. We have decided to do this without a physical store that is open to the public. We will close our Artesia location on June 15, 2014. There will be a store-wide sale from June 5 to June 15 in order to honor to our loyal local customers and offer them some great deals before we close.

For the foreseeable future, we will retain our Redondo Beach warehouse at our current address to support our events business. We will continue creating and supporting events such as Ladies, Lunch, and Literacy, Literary Women of Long Beach, Mystery on the Menu at the Cerritos Library, Books Are Better Shared, Literary Orange, and many other conferences through which we have created wonderful partnerships in our community.

We know that many of our loyal customers and friends in the South Bay will be saddened by the news that we are closing our bookstore, but we will be actively looking for opportunities to serve them in other ways. We plan to create and host events at local venues, enabling readers and authors to come together to share their love of books and conversation. We will continue to reach out to our community to tell them what we are doing and hope that this new format will engage the enthusiasm of readers in Southern California.

As always, details about this week's events can be found just below (including the store-wide sale in Redondo Beach). Today's new arrivals include Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King, the exciting Faceoff thriller anthology from the International Thriller Writers, and Kate Carlisle's new Biblio mystery!

Have a great week. We look forward to seeing you in our stores and communities... and we thank you very much for your continued support.
