Unifying Clinical Communication
Brought to you by our Washington HIMSS Platinum Sponsor:
Secure messaging point solutions have failed to provide value to care team members. They were widely adopted to become HIPAA compliant, but have low user adoption as they created user and technology silos which do not help clinicians connect in the way they require.

To communicate effectively, clinicians need all communication to come through in to a single,  unified platform . Connecting all stakeholders across the healthcare continuum and integrating technology enables more efficient care delivery, improves the patient experience and can reduce resource requirements from IT.
Systems Integration and Consolidation
A unified strategy streamlines communication by integrating with existing IT, clinical, and telecommunications systems while replacing redundant communication systems, scheduling platforms and alerting/ paging systems. For example, when hospitals use desktop phones and paper directories, it is difficult to maintain correct contact information, stay up to date with who is on-call and easily connect with all care team members.

Integrating with clinical systems is providing hospitals with an effective way to meet the cost and quality challenges of value-based care. Care team members get a better picture of the patient, with push notification of orders and lab results, patient-centric messaging and safe patient handoff addressing some of the biggest delays in care delivery.
Key Integrations
Key healthcare communication workflows are often enabled and enhanced by a fundamental set of integrations, as detailed below:
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Retrieve patient lists and see which clinicians are a member of the patient’s care team. Additional workflows include: critical lab notifications, order notifications, structured clinical notes for rounding, and documentation of key conversations.
  • On Call Schedule Platform: View on call schedules from 3rd party platforms and send messages/calls based on those schedules. Native scheduling platform available if paper based systems are currently in place.
  • Active Directory/LDAP: Easily synchronize users with the existing IT infrastructure based on permissions and roles; leverage users’ existing credentials to authenticate them into the platform.
  • Telephone System: Call local extensions within the hospital or across departments within the healthcare system and assign dialable extensions to mobile users.
  • Pager Network: Send messages directly to dedicated pagers to support emergency situations and allow for physicians to gradually transition away from pager devices.
  • Lab Information System: Convey critical labs for a patient directly to the care team in a safe manner that includes the escalation of unread or un-actioned messages.
  • Nurse Call System: Route nurse calls to a bedside nurse or unit clerk (escalate as needed) and call a patient back through the nurse call system to clarify the nature of certain requests.
  • Patient Monitoring Devices: Send specific alerts and alarms to the care team from patient alarming middleware (EKG, SP02, Ventilators).
  • Call Center: Agents can send direct messages from existing call center software to system users. Alternatively, Telmediq provides a call center replacement solution.
  • Bed Tracking/Management: Alert specific groups and teams on the status change of beds (EVS for bed clean or hospital-wide when at capacity).

By investing in a  unified clinical communication & collaboration  platform, you can help prepare your hospital for years to come. Telmediq is the #1 KLAS rated vendor for secure communication platforms in healthcare. To learn more, visit .
