DeSoto Councilmember’s

Residency Discussed

From Texas Metro News Staff Reports

Sources have confirmed that DeSoto City Councilmembers are meeting to address a whistleblower’s claims that a Councilmember no longer resides in the district in which they were elected to serve.

A source close to DeSoto City government said that city officials first heard that the council member had relocated after receiving a phone call from a person who said that they knew about and had information about the location of the move, that was not in the council member’s district.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the Council would consider the situation in a meeting tonight because it is required that members of the Council live in the districts that they represent. While regular council meetings are open to the public and are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall at Town Center this meeting will be held in executive session; therefore, the public will not have access either in person or by logging on the Desototexas.gov website or the Government Access Channel 16 on Time Warner and Channel 99 on AT&T Uverse.

Texas Metro News is following this story and will provide updates as information becomes available.

Blacks not economic bystanders

As we reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we think about African Americans as agents of history. Well-documented gaps in unemployment rates, earnings, poverty and wealth too often lead to viewing African Americans as bystanders to America's economy.

By Michael Merschel
