About the Program

The first overseas lawyer to be featured in our War Stories series is Tim Taylor, an Englishman who is one of the few solicitors to have been made a King’s Counsel (an honor normally accorded only to barristers). He is perhaps best known for leading high-stakes international commercial arbitrations as an advocate and has also worked extensively as an arbitrator. He has arbitrated all over the world, including California, and has been based in Dubai for the last 15 years. He will explain how the principles used in commercial mediation can also be used in the peace process, based on his experience with drafting a framework peace agreement for Darfur and working on the Peace Project in Yemen. He is the founding director of the International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) program, which aims to build legal capacity and strengthen the rule of law in Africa through placements with major law firms in the UK.

This program is presented by the Mediation Section, co-chaired by Jeffrey Kravitz and Robert Cohen. Find out more at www.bhba.org.
