Hello!

For a quarter century, Whidbey Island Center for the Arts has served as cornerstone of the Whidbey arts community, producing and supporting excellent artistic expression that has enlivened and edified the folks of our little island region.

Of course the center is “dark” as our country and the world grapple with the Covus-19 pandemic. We are doing our part, as are you, to bring this global scourge under control. But on the other end of this crisis, when it is safe once again, we are prepared to come roaring back with the kind of scintillating programming for which we have become known.

To that end, we are participating in a two-day, online event called GiveBIG, which raises funds for nonprofit organizations throughout Washington State. In the coming days you will receive email messages and Facebook posts telling you how to participate in this GiveBIG campaign on May 5-6 and how a contribution to WICA will help power our endeavors through these challenging times and beyond.

Here at WICA, our board and staff, with 100 percent participation, have put our own stamp of enthusiasm on this effort by contributing $17,000 in support of the GiveBIG event. To that we’re adding an anonymous contribution of $5,000 from a generous patron, and that $22,000 will be set aside as a matching fund to complement, dollar for dollar, contributions from you and others who wish to see artistic expression on Whidbey Island thrive.

My board colleagues and our staff join me in asking you to circle May 5 and 6 on your calendars and to take note of WICA’s ongoing contributions to the social, economic, and artistic life of our community.

Sincerely,

Robert W. Merry, WICA Board Chair
