Dear Amanda,
After months of receiving your calls to run for Virginia Governor, five weeks ago, I accepted your request to finish the 15 month race for Governor that I began in 2020. Many of you said you wanted to have a say in who your next governor would be, and you wanted to have a choice. I'm honored that you asked me, yet again. Thank you.
For the past 5 weeks, we've been working in the trenches right along beside you. And what a joy. We've had so much fun traveling the state and getting to know so many of you. Your commitment and work ethic are inspiring. Thanks to many of you for giving up your vacation to collect signatures so that we could accomplish our mission. It was a grind. Many of you sacrificed time, energy and talents.
To be honest, this morning we weren't sure if we would get across the finish line. It's been a scramble to say the least. We've tried hard to keep the faith but we knew with entering the race 5 weeks before the deadline, time was not on our side. I truly believed that if I was supposed to be on the ballot, God would make a way. Then, the Fed Ex envelopes starting arriving just as we were ready to head out the door. On top of that, several of you dropped off your petitions at the State Board of Elections ahead of us. I was still counting signatures in the back seat of my car on the almost two hour trip from Appomattox to Richmond.
At approximately 4:40pm today, with only 20 minutes to spare until the deadline, we officially submitted all of our petitions and a filing fee of $3,500 to the Virginia State Board of Elections, to run for Virginia Governor.
I want to thank all of our hard working, committed volunteers across the state for their tireless drive and determination to collect the necessary signatures to get my name on the ballot. I'm honored by your relentless support and commitment to ensure Republican Primary voters have a choice on Tuesday, June 19.
