Free Kane County CPR Classes
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Health Department are offering free Heartsaver CPR AED classes for individuals with little or no medical training. Classes will be held:
- Aurora: Mercy Medical Center, Oct. 16, 1–5 p.m.
- Elgin: Saint Joseph Hospital, Nov. 20, 1–5 p.m.

Join the Historic Preservation Commission for the annual Cemetery Walk on Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery. Meet costumed guides portraying Montgomery’s early residents in this family-friendly walk through history. Free admission and parking; bring a flashlight and sturdy shoes.

Middle School Pickleball Night in Batavia
Middle schoolers are invited to a fun Open Gym Pickleball Night on Oct. 22 at the Civic Center Gym in Batavia. Enjoy games, music, and snacks. New or experienced players are welcome. Pre-registration is required and participants should bring their own paddle (a limited number of paddles will be available).

Aurora Hosts Free Screening on Homelessness
The City of Aurora will host a free screening of Beyond The Bridge on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Aurora University’s Crimi Auditorium. The documentary explores solutions to homelessness across the U.S. and will be followed by a community Q&A and action-focused discussion. Space is limited — register at this link.

South Elgin Pumpkin Decorating Contest
The Village of South Elgin invites local businesses to participate in the first-ever Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the Pumpkin Patch Festival on Oct. 4. This is a fun way to showcase creativity, promote your business and compete for the title of Pumpkin Decorating Champion. Spots are limited, and the entry deadline is Sept. 24 (or until filled).

Kane County Division of Transportation Annual Urethane Pavement Marking Begins
Kane County’s annual Urethane Pavement Marking Program is underway. Work will take place Monday–Saturday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., and includes installing durable urethane pavement markings on county highways, progressing south to north across the county. The project is part of ongoing road maintenance efforts and was expected to be completed by the end of Oct. 2025.

Public Information Meeting – Galligan Road Improvements in Gilberts
The Kane County Division of Transportation will host a public information meeting on Sept. 23, from 5–7 p.m. at the Gilberts Eagles Club, 325 Raymond Street in Gilberts. The project focuses on roadway, intersection and shared-use path improvements along Galligan Road between Binnie and Freeman Roads. LEARN MORE

Libraries Ride the Rails with Commuters
Fourteen west suburban libraries are teaming up to bring digital resources to Metra BNSF Line riders. Thanks to a RAILS grant, ads in train cars and at stations highlight free eBooks, audiobooks, streaming, newspapers, museum passes and more—services many commuters already pay for elsewhere. Friends of the Fox River in Running for Impact Award
Friends of the Fox River is a World Rivers Day Impact Award finalist. Voting continues until Sept 28. Top prize is a $1,000 donation. Friends of the Fox River works to protect and restore the Fox River through education and community action.

Geneva’s Cordogan’s Pianoland Marks 75 Years
